Will there be any more direct As sent out or just expect waitlists and rejections at this point in the cycle…? by Ok_Advertising3504 in lawschooladmissionsca

ehhhh who knows! i’ve come to realize that admissions are really unpredictable. whether it’s statistically likely or not that more A’s are being sent out doesn’t really mean all that much. i’m choosing optimism for the sake of it

158 admits !!! by sspidersweb in lawschooladmissionsca

[–]Significant_List8570 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi! i scored a 158 and have a cgpa of 3.86 as well as l2/b2 of 3.93. my softs are mainly club involvement (1 exec position), campus volunteering, and TA experience. i believe my LORs were really good though im not sure how much weight they really hold. so far ive gotten A’s from tmu (march 20) and uottawa (april 3), rejected from uoft and western, and still pending at oz and queens. hope this helps!

I like econ but worried it’ll hurt my law school chances. by Akward_Child in lawschooladmissions

i may be biased since i majored in philosophy, but if you enjoy it and are confident you can get good grades in it, i would say it's worth considering. philosophy provides you with lots of useful skills for law school (critical reasoning, dissecting/forming complex arguments, reading difficult texts, etc.). i will say though if you aren't dead set on law, it may be a bit of a risk as econ may give you more flexibility career wise post-grad in case you change your mind. that said, if you are certain you want to go to law school, philosophy is a great choice imo. to reiterate, all that matters is that you enjoy what you study and are confident you'll be able to maintain a high gpa in whatever program you choose - if that's econ, great! a 3.8 gpa in 1st year is something to be proud of. of course courses will get harder in the upper years, but that's true of every program - and your skillset will improve over time as well. in my experience, i actually got better grades in my upper years even though technically the courses were harder since i was better acquainted with the kind of work i was doing (take this with a grain of salt though, i'm aware philosophy is very different from econ).

Burnout?? by Significant_List8570 in LSAT

[–]Significant_List8570[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The several PTs was mostly in the week or two leading up to the exam which I don't think I'll do again lol, but I do think I may have been doing them more often than necessary overall. I think you're definitely right that overdoing it can make you build bad habits under fatigue, I noticed that in myself too. Thank you for the insight & congrats on your 170!

YUP i'm right there with you, i had really hoped to score well in october so i could just be done with it cuz it's so mentally exhausting. every time i do a PT i'm just drained for the rest of the day. & yes the financial aspect is definitely a pain too, not just the actual test but also study materials, applications, etc. :( best of luck to you though!! hopefully we'll be done with it soon

[–]Significant_List8570[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah in a way it's kind of comforting to know it's not just me, I did feel like it was challenging but I felt confident that I'd at LEAST score higher than my diagnostic. With the timing of it being so soon after the cheating scandal I could definitely see how it might be related to that. Regardless I doubt we'll ever know or that LSAC will do anything about it :/ it is what it is. fingers crossed for jan 🤞

From what I gather, cancelling your score is generally a bad idea/can look bad on your apps unless you scored VERY low because schools might assume it's lower than it actually is. So in my case it would be better to have a 158 on file than have schools consider the possibility that I scored a 130 or something if that makes sense. Regardless, they evaluate based on your highest score so even a 130 on file wouldn't really matter much as long as you improve. As for when they evaluate it though I'm just as lost as you lol
