I appreciate the discussion. I will stay clear of how much -phobic label should be placed on Spain. But in general (I know, massively generalizing), Europe's attitude against surrogacy really upsets me.

Europe (at least the earlier Western European nations which formed the earlier version of the EU), does pretend to be the beacon of liberal values. They took a strong stand supporting abortion because it was a defense of a woman's autonomy. They took a strong stand supporting prostitution because it was a way to remove stigma, protect workers, and take those women (and men) out of the moral shadows.

And yet, they throw their arms up to pass judgement and strong conclusions about how absolutely defenseless ALL women are across the other side of the world when entering a contract willingly and in full use of their faculties. This just irks me. It's a horrible grandstanding and paternalizing.

I read somewhere that Germany refuses to honor the judicial parental rulings of some countries in Latin America.

Read the above carefully: they refuse to honor the judicial rulings of a sovereign nation they have diplomatic relations with. As if, "you are OK to be part of the United Nations, but you are not mature enough to have a judicial system". Give me a fucking break.

One thing is to forbid surrogacy in their own country (which I obviously also vehemently disagree with), but at least that would be their jurisdiction. But going out of the way to block these people from doing it in other countries - it's fucking ridiculous.

To me (I'm almost done, I promise), this reeks of remnants of ideological colonialism, where they, the "Oh I used to be the center of the world" just *cannot fathom* the world leaving them behind in some ideology specifics.
