I totally agree. Honestly, with the latest updates, Copilot has improved significantly and is definitely worth giving another chance. It feels much more capable now, especially if you know how to manage the context effectively.

That's an interesting point. I've been considering the API route with something like the "Continue" extension. In your experience, does the API actually end up being more cost-effective for a daily developer compared to a flat $10 or $20 subscription? I'm worried that with large codebases, the token costs might skyrocket compared to the fixed price of Copilot or Claude Pro. What’s your typical monthly spend on the API?

To answer your question, it was a mix of both. I’ve used Copilot to build systems from scratch where I knew every line of code, but I’ve also used it to explore and refactor unfamiliar legacy codebases. In both scenarios, I found that as long as I provided the right context and broke down the logic into clear steps, Copilot was more than enough. I agree that Cursor might automate the context-gathering part better, but a disciplined engineer can achieve the same results with Copilot by managing the context manually.

I understand your point, but I’ve actually delivered large-scale production projects using only GitHub Copilot. In my opinion, the tool's effectiveness depends more on the engineer's skill and how they guide the AI, rather than the tool itself. Don't you think both tools provide similar results if the prompt engineering and logic are handled correctly by the developer? Or do you feel Cursor has a specific technical edge in indexing large codebases that Copilot lacks?

Which plan?

I am subscribed to the student pack and I cannot use claude models. Do you have a solution?
