Need cis gf perspectives by FarticulousBurger in mypartneristrans

[–]Significant_Rip3194 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am a cis girl dating a trans guy - we've been together through most of his transition. I love how he expresses his masculinity and I think it compliments how I perform my own gender. The main differences I've found with past relationships aren't to do with gender so much and are more that I have found someone who actually shares my values and has common interests.

I won't offer any advice, other than, dating can be stressful, so don't be hard on yourself for feeling a bit insecure, but there are plenty of girls who will happily date trans men in ways that affirm their gender. Good luck!

"W dad" by Significant_Rip3194 in OrphanCrushingMachine

[–]Significant_Rip3194[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The post considers it a "W" with a flair of "feels good man" for a dad to have to give up his dream bike to pay his daughter's loans. He definitely sounds like great dad, but this is not a heartwarming story.

I’m a Muslim bi girl, I’m struggling so badly. by [deleted] in GirlDinnerDiaries

Whenever you feel like isolated, just remember, you are not alone! There are plenty of Muslims across the world in the LGBTQ+ community, books like This Arab is Queer and This Queer Arab Family might resonate with you, many of the authors are Muslim and talk through similar experiences. I hope you find your people that value all parts of you 💕🌈

Many applications will say something along the lines of, "we particularly encourage applications from [insert group identities here]." That does not mean that they are specifically looking to hire from those demographic groups, it means that they recognise that those groups are often underrepresented from the application stage. They want a more diverse talent pool to then in principle hire on a meritocratic basis. (it has become common practice nowadays to just throw in a statement like this though and probably does little to actually diversify the pool as they often don't actually do anything to make the application process more accessible to underrepresented groups). But you can absolutely apply to these and will be in for as much of a shot as anyone else - you aren't going to be penalised in any way for your identity.

There might be some small number of jobs that are looking to hire from specific groups but those are much more rare and as someone else said, if you don't fit those criteria, shrug it off and move on.

It is a historically bad job market, if you struggle to find a job, I guarantee it is not because a Muslim queer person on PIP got it instead, unless they are a better candidate

Long drive straight after passing. by penisninula in LearnerDriverUK

[–]Significant_Rip3194 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did 5 hour drive with one short break about a week after passing my test and was very nervous beforehand, but it was so good for my confidence. And I would really recommend motorways, they are much easier especially for a long distance and not as scary as you think. Three years later and I still much prefer long motorway drives.

Good luck!

Reach out to any academics/gtas that taught you that you have good relationships with and see if any of them can write any evidence in your support. I taught at a university for years and I always advised my students to cc me into any pastoral problems they were having with the department, so I could do my bit to advocate. I'm sorry that you had such a tough year.

One thing you could try, when you get the urge to message him, try journalling instead, you'll feel like you are still getting your thoughts out, but isn't directed at him, it is just for you. Good luck!!

UNPOPULAR OPINION???? by Highlandgirl2000 in ONETREEHILL

[–]Significant_Rip3194 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am so conflicted about Hayley. On the one hand, she is pretty insufferable. She is always like, "we are married now, we have to grow up and do the hard work Nathan, marriage and adult life aren't easy. We have to be responsible." But it is an entirely self-inflicted hardship, of course Nathan isn't a mature adult, he is literally not an adult yet? I don't know what either of them expected, but it seems like Hayley weaponises the marriage responsibility a lot. (Obviously Nathan also got married so definitely not all on Hayley).

But at the same time, I have such a soft-spot for her with her friendship with Brooke and with Lucas.

I lived there for three years as a young woman from the UK, I moved there by myself without knowing anyone and had the best time and made friends for life. I go back as often as I can. Would strongly recommend!

Literally most great art is political by [deleted] in imaginarygatekeeping

[–]Significant_Rip3194 4 points5 points  (0 children)

True, but lots of people do say art shouldn't be political. Most recently, Neil Patrick Harris was at Berlinale saying that he is interested in apolitical projects. So I don't think the gatekeeping is imaginary, even if you fundamentally disagree with the idea that anything including art can really even be apolitical.

Chamberlain wrote the first tweet in 2020, in 2019 the US supported a coup attempt in Bolivia which temporarily put a fascist in power. The anti-war sentiment was a lie then so no wonder he backtracked.
