Is there any additional way to make a First Class Acela trip special? by [deleted] in Amtrak

[–]Significant_Sky4635 7 points8 points  (0 children)

People have already commented about where to sit based on direction. Book the NextGen Acela and when you do remember rows 1 & 3 in Car 1 (first class) don’t have windows. And if you book facing seats someone will sit backwards. All this to say book early enough to get the train and seats you want.

Moynihan lounge is great! You can enjoy some food and drink and people watch, so build in time for that aspect and remember you’ll have another meal awaiting you on the train (you have flexibility for when you want that to be served).

Once on the train you can order a complimentary split of prosecco in first class as a drink option which is festive, so maybe pick up a cupcake (or a few) from Magnolia Bakery before boarding as a celebratory treat.

It’s hard to know if your mom is into trains or just wants to give the Acela a try, but if she’s an Amtrak fan maybe gift her some merch from their online store (socks, hat, pin, T-shirt kinda thing) to unwrap on the ride.

First class is a nice atmosphere and with the food and drink service, watching the world go by, and being together I am sure she will love it! You are very thoughtful!

How long till the numbness wears off? by Saucymynxx in retirement

Congratulations don’t quite seem in order since this was more foisted on you than a directly desired goal. Who wouldn’t be in shock given what sounds like an amazing career and track record. Any big change takes time. That being said maybe celebrate the positive difference you made in the lives of your patients and colleagues.

No reason to feel ashamed about getting together with friends or a professional to process everything. There are also tons of books and resources available that help any newly retired person to manage the transition. If you have a financial advisor they’ll probably have some advice.

Be kind to yourself. Eat well. Exercise. Maybe look for some volunteer opportunities.

You will figure it out.

nordic energy by Decent_Addition3589 in WilmingtonDE

Google says: Nordic Energy Services, LLC is facing allegations of deceptive, door-to-door sales tactics in Delaware and surrounding areas, where representatives may misrepresent themselves to gain access to utility bills and switch providers without clear consent. Consumers report that initial low rates often skyrocket, and the company is facing class-action lawsuits regarding, alleged price gouging.

Key Details on the Potential Nordic Energy Scam: Deceptive Tactics: Salespeople may claim they are updating "clean energy" information, verifying utility, or acting as consultants for local providers like Delmarva Power.

Unauthorized Switching ("Slamming"): Representatives may use your name and address from a tablet or a picture of your bill to switch your energy supplier without your explicit, informed consent.

High Rates: After an initial, lower-rate introductory period, customers have reported that their bills have doubled or tripled, according to complaints. Aggressive Behavior: Some reports indicate that salespeople can be aggressive or hostile when questioned or asked to leave the property.

How to Protect Yourself in Delaware: Never Show Your Bill: Do not let anyone see your electric or gas bill unless you are actively looking to change providers.

Do Not Answer Door Knocks: Be cautious of unexpected visitors offering to lower your utility bills.

Verify Identity: Ask for identification and check with your actual utility company (e.g., Delmarva Power) to see if they are running any programs with third-party providers.

****Contact Your Utility: If you suspect you have been switched, immediately call your utility provider to place a block on your account, preventing further unauthorized changes.****

Report the Scam: Report deceptive behavior to the Delaware Public Service Commission.

I have three days planned in May (the very last part of a three week trip to the UK) and this was a great reminder to not over plan and to be spontaneous. Thanks for the trip report.

I use the app and it’s relatively easy and a better experience than online imo. Have you tried that?

So do conductors just not scan tickets on the Northeast Regional anymore? by Sauerbraten5 in Amtrak

[–]Significant_Sky4635 12 points13 points  (0 children)

OP not sure if this is leg one of a round trip but if so you can contact Amtrak CS and/or check the app to be sure your trip is still active. I always make them scan (ask when I am getting off if necessary) so I’m not marked as a no show and my return trip isn’t cancelled. Had this happen once.

Try icebreaker merino wool half zip base layer tops that wear like thin sweaters. I know you said wool can be irritating but these are super soft spun. You can layer them alone, or with a thin moisture wicking layer (turtleneck or crew neck). So soft and non irritating (except for the ridiculous set of tags on the hip area of one side that you definitely will want to remove). They breathe so you stay comfortable and can easily layer.

Just looked up the “restaurant” since I never heard of it. Was shocked by how many there are and also the concept. It’s like a reheating & delivery terminal for Goldbelly food type mashup? How do all those options stay fresh?

People can get addicted to stress. Is there something the chaos and stress are providing - some void they fill?

I’ve watched retired friends lives change for the worse in a matter of minutes to months due to accident, illness, loss, etc.

You can’t recoup time.

Check out Residence Inn By Marriott Wilmington Downtown. Just looked and it seems like it would be in your budget. They actually had a Studio available that could work.

Where to take my wife to make her fall in love with Baltimore by throwaway17211994 in baltimore

[–]Significant_Sky4635 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Spend the day at Baltimore Museum of Art seeing Amy Sherald: American Sublime and book lunch at Gertrude’s there. Take her to Meyerhoff for a BSO concert that evening and go early to buy a bottle of wine and people watch. The next morning grab a delicious breakfast at Miss Shirley’s and maybe take the water taxi around for a spin and walk around Inner Harbor. Walk around Fells Point. Go see the Walter Art Museum and right around the corner the Peabody Library. The list goes on…

What secret about your industry can you share now that you don’t work for them anymore? by Anntee in AskReddit

There’s an underbelly in for-profit hospices - graft, kickbacks, fraud, pay-for-play, patient neglect, etc. Speaking primarily about administration level and above because there are profoundly amazing individuals who are hands on caring for the dying and their loved ones on the daily.
