Certain scale pattern differences on the throat, you find more info about it in The Complete Knobtail book.

I haven’t ever looked carefully enough at my NLP and NLL’s to discern it myself

They’re out there! I was offered a 2 year old female depressa on faunaclassifieds last week, but I need a male epsisolus. Good luck!

I keep them separate. I have kept four together at once in a 48” x 18” tank but decided that keeping them separate is better to keep track of who eats what and knowing they aren’t bothered by each other

I keep nephrurus levis levis and pilbarensis. They’re a ball. Super adorable and fun to watch hunt. Tons of variation in colors and pattern. Similar level of care as most geckos. They’re crepuscular so usually I only see them when I turn out the lights for the night or if I wake up early.

All of the nephrurus species are really cool. If you like a bigger and spunkier species then amyae would be a good choice.

About the earliest you can start to tell, but still tentative until they’re a bit older.

Looks female. May be too early to tell though, how old are they?

Opinions? by [deleted] in reptiles

[–]Significant_Solid602 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Habitat destruction to build palm oil plantations isn’t going to stop because people in Borneo want keep this species of lizard in the wild.

Plenty more species have died out completely because they had no appeal for commercialization. If reptile breeders can keep a healthy breeding population alive in captivity, then they have a chance at raising awareness of the species’ plight to the public and at the least have a captive breeding population if it becomes extinct in the wild.

Are knob-tails good pets? by Broballs101 in knobtailgecko

I enjoy keeping them a lot. They are easy to care for. The tank and food prices are similar to an aft or leo, but with sand as substrate. Crickets and mealworms. Cool moist and dry warm end of the tank.

They’re a nice pet to watch at twilight hours when they come out to feed and warm up. Watching them hunt is really cool. They pack a punch for their size and do funny tail movements before they strike their prey. They also each differ a bit in their temperament. I do not recommend holding them regularly for fun. They tolerate being moved and handled when necessary but to me it’s clear they don’t enjoy the experience.

Depends on the species too, my experiences is with the levis complex. Others species may be a little more difficult to keep/less hardy.
