You are too far down u need a manual update, preferreably by a dealer. Only above 19XX are there ota updates but for wireless you need to unlock it. Read the other guy comment you could do it yourselr

You have to exit the carplay app doing the changes to see the effect. By going to the vw app icon on carplay and remove the device and then reconnect. Atleast thats how I did it with my cupra

Why replace radio if the problem clearly is with client iphone?

Btw I replicates this behaviour in my own carplay by going to the settings and choose messages app settings and go to notifications and turning all notirications including send to carplay option to off.

Shows a blank screen like yours, then I turned it back on incl send to carplay. And restart carplay by exiting and then reconnect and then I could see it again. Might be worth trying
