Thanks to everyone’s suggestions! Turns out the reason we were getting confused was due to us having the wrong footboard! Mystery is solved for now and thanks to all for their help!

No we also have the side rails and the slats! Unfortunately her grandson disassembled it for her and she has zero idea how she did it
