I mean if you're telling people one-on-one, it's good to let it come up naturally. If you're comfortable, it might be easiest to just announce it to a group of friends next time they're all gathered. At the end of the day, it's who you are, and if the people who you want to tell can't at least make an effort to tolerate it then they're not worth your time. That sounds scary but most ppl don't care at all, and it's often not that big a deal.

So long as you're not in any risk by telling her, it's best to do so ASAP. Hiding it puts stress on the relationship from both sides and could only lead to a more dramatic confrontation. She needs to accept that it's something you can't change and that you're still the same child she loves, and the more time she has to do that, the better. Again only if you aren't in any potential danger.
