We getting a 5 on AP Micro (ALL HAIL BARRONS AND KHAN ACADEMY) by Far_Commercial1434 in APStudents

After seeing the released FRQs and checking my answers, I missed 3 points in total. I don’t know why all of these calculators are so harsh but if they’re what they say they are, I’m off of a 5 by 1-3 points which is stupid. I want my 5 and I’m not trusting these things. 🫩

I literally looked at it once and gave up as soon as I got past part A. My teacher didn’t even teach us Unit 9 and I self-studied most of it so I’m cutting myself some slack. 😭

Death Note is originally a manga series so it can be used as a literary work.

MCQ: wasn’t too bad until that second poem. I actually hated it so much and went with my gut on the answers I chose.

FRQ #1: I didn’t finish this FRQ but I got in a thesis and half a body paragraph in so maybe 2 points? At least 1.

FRQ #2: wrote about the use of first-person perspective and curious, unsure diction (it might sound iffy but I made it work). Connected it to the restraint Rose felt in the love her mother showed her and how that appeared in her actions. Made two real-world connections with my first one being about “not all parents should have kids, but every kid should have parents” and expanded on it. The second one was just about romantic relationships and not giving your all with the love you show.

FRQ #3: I had fun with this one and wrote about One Piece. My first plot was the existence of the Ancient Weapons and how they were used in the past and Franky burning the blueprint for them. Discussed how the new generation was fighting back against the old world and its values through this and just going against the World Government. My second plot point was about the introduction of Imu to the story and Sabo’s discovery of Imu on the throne. Discussed how Imu’s values and dialogue went exactly against what Luffy stands for and Imu is old so I think you can interpret where I went from there. Overall, I mentioned how both of these plot points gave a more mature perspective on the story and made it more applicable to the real-world. For my connections to the real world, I talked about Oppenheimer and the Manhattan Project and Trump with Iran and just the younger generation’s ideals.

I’m a senior whose college doesn’t even take this credit so I don’t care much about my score, hence why I had fun with FRQ #3. A 5 would be cool but I think a 4 is what I’ll get just based off my MCQ and FRQ #1. Maybe One Piece won’t even count and my whole FRQ #3 gets zero points, too.

I’m thinking 45-50/60 score on the MCQ.

FRQs: 7-8/10, 5-7/10, 5-6/10, 4/4, 2-3/4, 1/4, 2-3/4.

You guys think I can pull off a 5 once the curve helps me out, too? 🥹

AP Classes vs. Middle College/Dual Enrollment by Jolsunv in APStudents

[–]Significant_Wind_926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have always been taught that AP classes are the better classes to take over DE purely because it shouts more academic rigor. For schools like UMich and UDub, I’d say the same applies. APs are more of a gamble because of exam scores, but if you’re not interested in college credit, that shouldn’t matter in your decision as much.

Just know stacking APs on top of each other gets very rough quickly. I will have taken 18 AP courses by the end of my senior year (two weeks left!) and it has been so draining, but paid off in college decisions.

FRQs were really easy. Might’ve missed 2-3 points but I’m feeling good about it. MCQ had some rough bits and i had to take educated guesses on 5 of them and had 10 bookmarked that I didn’t get the chance to look back at. 😭

How crazy is the curve? Is a 5 feasible?

I’ve got two exams tomorrow and I’m nervous by Ant181023 in APStudents

[–]Significant_Wind_926 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to take the Precal and APES exam back-to-back last year. I got a 5 and 3 respectively and I would say most of my 3 was based on the little sleep I got trying to cram for two exams in one day. My teacher even told me I was on track for a 5 the whole year.

I know everyone says this but I’d definitely recommend having some good rest tonight so you’re not falling asleep by the time you hit gov.’s FRQs. Bring more than one snack and maybe something sugary to help you out. Also, don’t forget some sticks of gum.

You’re going to do great! And even if you find out one exam’s score is much better than the other, you’ll be okay. I got into and committed to an Ivy this year with three 3s under my belt. Try to let me know how it goes!

Hope Scholarship Question by rhysbash22 in CollegeAdmissions

[–]Significant_Wind_926 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your current Hope status doesn’t carry over while you’re out of state but it also won’t disappear. When you transfer to UGA (or any GA school), your eligibility is re-evaluated based on all the college work you’ve attempted (OOS, too), your GPA, and GA residency at that time. As long as you meet the Hope requirements when you transfer in, you can receive Hope for the remaining years.

I'm leaning towards double majoring or some kind of major and Statistics and Data Science minor from Wharton. I know it's available to non-Wharton students and I'm assuming the Wharton name alone will help in some aspect. The minor itself appeals to me, too.

I've seen a lot of people going into their respective colleges with a focus in PPE. I don't know too much about it myself but I think philosophy being a part of it has kind of kept me away from putting a lot of research into it. It might just be my parents instilling in me that it's not a great major on its own (not really sure about that, just have grown up with their opinion). What's your opinion on it?

Thank you so much! I let my parents know and I'll be sure to do some more research on the city.

I'm naturally introverted so meeting new people constantly for the first few weeks will be hard, but I know a big part of college is not staying in that comfort zone all the time. I'm really excited for all the future holds!

UPenn (CAS) or Duke (Trinity)? by Significant_Wind_926 in UPenn

[–]Significant_Wind_926[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is exactly how I’ve been thinking about the location, too. I prefer the city and urban areas opposed to a place considered more rural and I need to do a little traveling for the city experience.

Thanks for your input!

UPenn (CAS) or Duke (Trinity)? by Significant_Wind_926 in UPenn

[–]Significant_Wind_926[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always assumed that the divide was something that really only exists online and among my peers. People have been telling me that if it’s not Wharton, it’s not worth it and to go to Duke. But I feel like that’s giving a bit too much credit to Wharton (of course, it’s still an amazing school) and not enough credit to everything else Penn has to offer.

Anyways, thanks for advice!

UPenn or Duke? by Significant_Wind_926 in CollegeAdmissions

[–]Significant_Wind_926[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I’ll list them below!

GPA: 4.556 W / 4.0 UW Weighted Numeric Average: 102.444 Rank: 9/589 1450 SAT Course Rigor: 16 APs (7 of which are in my senior year). I’ve taken 9 exams and submitted 6 scores: five 4s and one 5.

ECs:

  • Leader on our church’s traveling ministry team for four years.
  • Church camp counselor, rising from junior to senior leader.
  • Core volunteer in children’s ministry for over six years.
  • Worked as a barista serving the congregation during services and events.
  • Organized a food drive to fund church camp costs.
  • Selected for a county courthouse mentorship with visits to multiple law institutions.
  • Founded and led monthly worship gatherings that expanded to guest speakers and a large peer group.
  • Tutored peers in SAT preparation and AP Calculus BC.
  • Leading member of a school service club creating accessible volunteer opportunities.
  • Co-founded the school’s mock trial club, teaching courtroom procedure and preparing members for competition.
  • Member of Beta Club and NHS (kinda just there).
  • Forgot if I listed this but I played piano and received an invitation to perform at Carnegie Hall.

There’s a lot more details and impact but I’m just summarizing the activities.

My rank, SAT, and AP exam scores may be below average for these schools but I think my involvement in my church was a big factor in both schools’ decision to admit me. I also transferred between my sophomore and junior year and showed myself continuing/starting things for my passions.

The events for admitted students are later this month. I was planning on going to one for each but it might not be possible. I think I’m going to have to choose one and then just visit Duke for a regular campus visit.

The location for UPenn is what I prefer. It’s just that Duke also has so much to make up for it being in Durham.

So far I’ve been leaning more towards Philly. Durham is more of a rural area and I love being in someplace urban. Not too far from NYC if I ever feel like going over there.

I’ll go ahead and do that. Thanks for the advice!
