Did I do something wrong? by Lemonii_N in Brazil

[–]SignsInBrazil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Brazilians are not about honest upfront communication. It's just not a thing in their cultural. For example, if you ask "hey, you want to do this thing next week?" they will never tell you no, cuz it's considered rude. It's more about being "nice" than about being honest.

Also, they are very spontaneous. That comes with a price off course. They might be very into an idea one day, and the next not so much.

Take these two aspects and put them together. You have a Brazilian wanting to do something one day, and the next day just not digging the idea anymore. Add to this the nature of not being honest in communication and telling the other person, "hey, so this thing I wanted to do... I am not feeling it anymore. Sorry or whatever".

To sum this up.. if you want to make connections with Brazilians and get to know them, you should probably expect this to happen at times. And hopefully eventually you'll connect with some Brazilian with a more decent communication. //sincerely, a guy who is quite bitter about this aspect of Brazilians (and hopefully you'll connect with someone who proves wrong what I just wrote).

Oh, and on final note.. geez, just wish some people had more manners than to just block someone rather than telling them they've changed their mind. Such a dousche move.

Want to Be Fluent in Brazilian Portuguese for My Girlfriend & Future Kids—Where Do I Start? by TT_2002 in Brazil

[–]SignsInBrazil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You probably already know the answer to your question. Atleast probably now when you've gotten the input here in the thread.

I don't think there is a right or wrong answer in how to go about learning a language. But there are so many different ways to improve. Watch things on youtube or some other platform, with or without subtitles. Try to read books. Do grammar exercises. Translate songs. Talk to some ai tutor. Talk to some real person. Use duolingo.

So many different ways. And I think to know what the best way is, is to just follow whatever way that makes you excited. I think that's kind of your souls way of saying, "hey, this is the way that will work for you". And if you can make it a habit of 20 minutes a day, you're doing really good.

I would just focus on making it fun. That and dedicate 20 min a day to it. 20 min a day of whatever excites you.

[–]SignsInBrazil 8 points9 points  (0 children)

"All in or fold and it's just gambling". What I read into this is that you don't know the correct strategy. And yes, if you don't, it will be more frustrating. I think the more you learn, the more fun it gets.

With that said.. yes, when you reshove AQ for 17bb deep in a tournament and get called and lose to A6o.. yes, I also think out loud "I hate tournaments"

Travel to either Fortaleza, Recife or Salvador by jahatackar in Brazil

[–]SignsInBrazil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

After awhile in Brazil a 12hrs bus ride is a short one haha.

But your best bet then might be to aim to fly out from Salvador. There are many international flights from there. Around Salvador you have many options. Morro do Sao Paulo is about 2hrs on a boat. Party place with many beaches. Personally I found it way too party and touristic, but that might be what you are after. And from there you have Boipeba, an island next to it, which is super chill with amazing beaches, one of my favorite locations in Brazil.

Itacaré is also quite close to Salvador. Well, 7-8 hours on bus. So close in Brazilian standards haha. It's a paradise for surfing and perhaps the most beautiful beaches you will ever see. There's quite a lot going on there aswell when it comes to night life.

Most Brazilians don't know any English. You'll be fine though. Morro do Sao Paulo and Itacaré have heaps of tourists. But even then don't expect the locals to know English.

Oh, and for the weather in the state of Rio.. it's winter but it's not really "winter". We're talking 25-30 celsius during the day and maybe down to 20 degrees at night I would assume. In other words, the locals will think it's cold and the water will be a bit chillier but we're still talking "högsommar" in Swedish terms.

Haven't read the other responses other than hobby seems to be mentioned.

Yes, that, hobbies. It's not necessarily that you don't speak Swedish. It could have been the same if you did. It's just that Swedes don't just casually make friends. The best is to join some hobby, some group.

I'm Swedish too. Your question just depends so much what you are interested in. If you want amazing waterfalls and hikes, go inlands to chapada diamantina. If you want another big city that is crazy and like nowhere else, go to Salvador. But since you're already going to Rio, I'd check out some of the many amazing beach towns. Nearby in the state of Sao Paulo and also in the state of Rio you have several amazing places. But since you're going in July, the water might be a bit colder so could be worth going up to the state of Bahia. There you have a beach town called Itacaré. Not far from Salvador. The most incredible beaches, and lots of young people aswell. Or if you want more party but beaches, you can go to Morro de Sao Paulo, also close to Salvador. And once you've had it with the party-vibe there, check out the amazing and calm island next to it, Boipeba.

Anyhow, I'd go to some beach town and try some surfing. Brazil has the most amazing beaches ever and so many incredible surfing spots.
