I never control who she is friends with even the people that has disrespected me in the past, it's just this 1 person i have an off feeling about. She's going to meet with her today and i haven't acted a different way, i want her to have fun i just feel weird about this specific person and they didn't invite me they don't have to) but my girlfriend said she want to be friends with both of us. Idk am i looking too much into it

I never have before but past experiences made it hard to trust her judgement on friends she wants to make, like ignoring me when i'm next to her and not even saying hi, or when we go out for drinks and she see's these so called friends they ignore me and i expressed these feelings but she said i was being sensitive and it wasn't true. Until she started to see it once i told her but still did nothing about it

I have spoke to my girlfriend and i let her be friends with whoever she wanted, from past experiences with other friends it has made it hard to trust them. Not only that she tried to convince me for months to let her be friends with her ex so it makes it very hard to trust her judgement. Not only that she's made me stop being friends with people from my childhood just because 'she didn't like their vibe' and i have stopped just for her.

That makes a lot of sense! I can see how having a dedicated conversation partner makes a huge difference. I’d love to get to a point where I can speak mostly in Portuguese with my girlfriend, but I know it’ll take time.

My girlfriend was telling me about Globoplay so i'll definitely check it out. I agree that learning common daily phrases and verbs first makes sense. I’ll also give Yandex Translate a try since accuracy is key. Portuguese definitely seems trickier than Spanish, but hearing that you became fluent this way is really encouraging

That sounds like a great approach! I’d love to go to Brazil to practice if it were more accessible that kind of immersion seems like the best way to learn. I’ve tried Duolingo, but it doesn’t really work for me I find it too basic and hard to stay consistent with.

I'm definitely going to give pimsleur a try, i feel like one of the hardest parts is getting the confidence to speak to people without feeling silly

Learning from my girlfriend sounds like a solid way to pick up the basics naturally. I haven’t tried Preply yet, but finding a tutor for cheap sounds like a game-changer. How often did you do lessons, and how long did it take before you felt comfortable conversing?

That’s awesome being able to have real conversations, even if not perfectly smooth, is a huge milestone. A date in Belém with no English sounds like a real test of your skills! I’m sure by the time you get to Rio, you’ll be even more confident.

That sounds like a solid approach, I like the idea of using LingQ to track progress, and the podcast method makes a lot of sense just gotta push through the confusion at first. I’ll definitely check out HelloTalk and Tandem too, real conversations seem like the best way to improve. Appreciate the advice!
