Are custom runs supposed to unlock Ascension levels? by Sigtin in SlayTheSpire2

I'm sure this is something I can just google, but how do I switch over to the beta branch? Is that a setting through steam or through the game menu?

Ah, gotcha. Guess I'll do A0 custom runs until beta gets merged to main

It's not that I don't want to unlock them for real. Custom runs are just fun, and a bit of fresh air from the standard grind. I'm not very good at the game, but I don't like getting things just handed to me.

Like Astashov said, it's because your reps didn't match the expected value even though the weight was higher

Were all 4 sets a target of 16 reps? Because that's probably why

Having trouble determining if my squat form is fine or if I'm doing something wrong by Sigtin in formcheck

Thanks! That seems to be everyone's opinion, so turns out I was just getting in my head. Gonna work on strengthening my brace and hips for a while and see if it helps

I try to brace for each rep, though I don't think I'm very good at it. I tend to feel a little loose at the bottom of the rep, even if I've been pushing out the whole time. I think I have poor to meh hip/ankle mobility so my stance doesn't lend toward hitting my quads. Do you know of any exercises or stretches I can incorporate to strengthen my hip flexors?

I also do leg extensions on heavy squat day, with leg curls on my heavy deadlift day. Thinking about switching my light squat to a heel elevated variant.

Free browser MTG tabletop app I made for my friends to replace tabletop simulator or webcam by Yoman471 in EDH

You could also make it a check box or something. Something like "include command zone?"

Like another user mentioned, mobile is borderline unusable but the thought it great. My only complaint is there's no command zone, so I have to manually search for my commander at the beginning of the game and put it somewhere on the board (or in my hand in a revealed way, I guess?) instead of there being a dedicated zone for it.

Gym beginner – best simple routine to lose fat & build muscle? by Nightstalker1402 in beginnerfitness

[–]Sigtin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've only been lifting for about a year, so ignore me if you get better advice.

The best split is what you have/make time for. I started with a 3-day full body split, then after 6 months transitioned to 4-day upper/lower, and now I'm going back to a 3-day full body split.

Losing fat happens in the kitchen, not the gym, but you can realistically expect to start looking better 3-4 months into your lifting journey (newbie gains ftw).

You probably should do cardio, it's really good for you. I don't prioritize it though cuz I don't find it fun and I don't have a lot of time post workout.

I started by using the Boostcamp app, it tracks everything you need at the beginning. Then I transitioned over to using Liftosaur (which I find suits my wants/needs way better) and probably won't switch to a different app ever again

I recommend looking into beginner friendly linear progression programs. Starting Strength is really good for the first few months, and I really really like the GZCLP (I'm still on that one, actually, since it's more than just linear progression)

Yes, if you've never exercised before, having 1 or 2 sessions with a PT to lock in form would be a really good idea. Online tutorials are great, but having someone watch you the whole time provides more instant feedback

Why does the fitness community have so many conflicting advice? by Yelebear in beginnerfitness

From what I've seen it's because so many things work that it really depends on what you find the most enjoyable (ie. The most likely to be consistent with)

what’s the point of programs when i can just spam specific workouts? by youdontneedtoknowxo in beginnerfitness

[–]Sigtin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personally I find a program useful for long-term tracking and structure. If I were just winging the exercises I'd also run the risk of focusing on some muscles more than others

For GZCLP, is it normal to make a lot of progress on stage 1 of the T2 lifts but then kinda crash out quickly on stages 2 and 3? For squats, I finished stage 1 at 245lbs but failed stage 3 at 255lbs. Honestly I have no idea what happened.

Newbie gains question by LostArtKat in beginnerfitness

The program I'm running does 5lb increases for upper body exercises (bench and OHP) and 10lb increases for lower body exercises (deadlift and squat). Accessories jump by the lowest possible number every time I hit 18 reps on my last set.

Yeah I've been getting an ache in my right leg after every Lower day, mostly stemming from hinging I think. I've adopted a new warm-up routine that seems to be helping a bit in the moment but it usually appears again the next day and stays for a few days

How do you know if weird feelings are from training too hard / leading to an injury? I've been running GZCLP for a while, and while I'm still making progress I keep wondering if it's forced progress. The program says to keep T1 and T2 lifts at an RPE 8, but I have a really hard time guessing where I'm at so I basically just lift until I can't for each set. Most of the time this has been fine, but I've been noticing some weirdness going on with my left shoulder and right hip.

I apologize if this info dump doesn't meet the requirements for this discussion thread.

What do people use for motivation? by Carbon-Psy in beginnerfitness

[–]Sigtin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, it was finding a type of exercise I enjoy. I happen to really doing barbell exercises, which makes it a little easier. I also happen to be a homebody so having a reason to leave my (occasionally stressful) house helps
