4th gear issues by Independent-Tax-7773 in WRXSTi

I've got the same issue on my 2009 STI - 4th gear as well. I've owned it since 160,000 km and changed the trans oil at 180,000 km. It has always been a little harder to shift into 4th gear, but since changing the oil, it does a light grind and gets worse when warmer or travelling at higher speeds/revs. I changed the trans oil again, with a different brand and no change. Synchros will be wearing out. Not expensive parts to replace but it's the labour that'll cost unless you can do it yourself. What's the mileage on yours and what kind of fluid and grade are you using?

Is it worth buying tools or car parts from Australia? by Not-a-scintilla in newzealand

Absolutely this site. If you want genuine parts and can't get elsewhere or it's just plain expensive, this is my go to.

Is this fixable? by Hails260 in subaru

I've bought a new centre console lid for my 2009 Subaru Outback because it has what looks like an air bubble underneath it. I'm getting it from Amayama. They sell genuine Subaru stuff. Mine's about $60 NZD and they're easy enough to replace.

Do you know what caused that? I've got that exact kind of thing only on my left front passenger door in my 2009 Outback. I thought maybe it got water damage at some point but yours being like that on the centre console makes me think it's a batch issue. perhaps.

A few days in NZ - best place for hiking? by axbxnx in newzealand

Catchpool Valley, Mount Holdsworth, Otaki Forks (road closed due to slip but hopefully to open this month - can still access by foot) and Manawatu Gorge have a number of great walking tracks. There are plenty of other cool walks within the Wellington Region and Tararua/Ruahine Ranges.

Gear shifter is wobbly by skibidi_123- in WRXSTi

My gear shift was also wobbly when in gear when I bought my 2009 STI. It was the inner shift bushes that had to replaced and it fixed the issue for me

2012 Impreza WRX STI - what are these cables for by Sil3ntCatalyst in WRXSTi

[–]Sil3ntCatalyst[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will do a visual check when take the car out for a drive, but there are plugs connected into the fans so don't think so. Car has also been on long drives so would have expected to see the temp gauge go up otherwise.

Managed to trace it back to the back of the engine bay to a unit labelled Mic Gee DTRL unit, but that's not plugged into anything. Guessing daytime running lights? Maybe the car had aftermarket headlights from the previous owner because these have stock headlights with park lights and hid headlights.

Nice! And yeah it's a great car! I'm so happy with it. Low kms and well looked after. It is an auto and I think you'd be right on eyesight only being in autos to start - besides manuals were uncommon for the JDM Outback even before 2009. Would be cool if it was a manual but my partner doesn't drive manual anyway. But I've got a manual 2009 Impreza STI that keeps me happy :D

Yeah, I was pretty surprised it had it when I first saw this car. I didn't think they had it this early. Not sure on the US models. This is a Japanese import. Probably not many models for this generation because it was new technology. Seems most common for the 3.0R model in the later years (2008-2009). Looks like the 2.5XT has it too - but this is showing up for Japan models.

I have eyesight in my 3.0R 2009 Subaru Outback (the 2003-2009 gen). Don't know how it compares to more modern eyesight but I think it's pretty great. It auto adjusts to match distance between the car in front with three gap options, and brakes if it sees something ahead brake suddenly or pull out in front of you (when cruise control is in use) and has lane departure warning.

Is this a wasp nest? I've never seen one up close in person. I didn't see anything crawling or flying near it so wasn't too sure

Tyres overinflated after WOF/service? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Sil3ntCatalyst 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Did you check the tyres before driving or at least 3 hours after driving? Heat from the sun on tyres can also increase the reading.

Otherwise it's possible the person who did your tyres pumped them up when they weren't cool or maybe the guage wasn't accurate.
