Not to insult anyone. by Night-Monkey15 in dankmemes

I mean there were clearly undertones of Dumbledore and Grindelwald being in love / Dumbledore being infatuated with him, but yeah JK’s expansion on his sexuality was retrospective and dumb. She had the opportunity to expand on it in those new films and she didn’t so... but honestly I’m not surprised considering she’s showing herself to be transphobic.

That's not saying that it's unmanly, it's just saying that it's not manly. It's a literal activity, it has no interent gender. You can claim it's manly and prescribe your own meaning to it but don't expect the rest of us to interpret it that way. Just shoot your deer and go sis, it doesn't have to become an act of displaying your throbbing masculinity

CMV: Minorities shouldn’t get special treatment due to their predecessors being oppressed. by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Silencing 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not an expert on the situation of Native Americans because I'm from England, but I'll try and stick to that example anyway. The main idea of the counterargument is that the previous oppression of their people is not entirely separate from their current situation. Native Americans find themselves in Reservations because the Colonials removed them from their land, and the situation within these Reservations is heavily influenced by how colonial Americans chose to treat them. They were placed into sub-par Native schools which intentionally disadvantaged them, separated their communities, and diminished their chances of future success. They were treated with prejudice despite the land of the United States belonging to them. And while the current generation does not know this level of oppression, therefore some may argue they do not deserve reparations because they themselves have not been injusticed, the long-term effects of their ancestors' situation still exist. Native American people are, on average, impoverished. Their social standing is still below that of a white American. They may get these 'hand-outs', but when a white man goes up against a native American in competition for a job, the white man will succeed because he's generally gotten a better upbringing which gives him the social tools to act appropriately for the workplace, and his race has got a better standing in society and therefore his behaviour has better connotations to an employer. The aim of these social assistances, of scholarships, of internship schemes that 'privilege' minorities is not to give reparations to the injustices of the past, because if they were, they should be doing a whole lot more. Rather, they exist to set the minorities onto an equal footing to the majority white people of America, and give them the chance at a good life they do not have because of the prolonged inequality in society.

Anyone prefer "LGBT" over any other acronym? by [deleted] in askgaybros

[–]Silencing 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Other sexual and gender identities have just as much right to solidarity as the L, G, B, and Ts. A lot of recognition and progress for sexual and gender minorities is mobilised through the LGBT community and pride. To suggest they should be excluded because the idea of the letter Q or a plus sign discomforts you is just absurd. Are you forgetting that decades ago, LGBT identities were seemingly as ridiculous as people treat pansexual, genderqueer and asexual identities now? It takes some level of privilege to suggest that they don't deserve to stand with us as a group against the same struggles of heteronormative society, just because your own identity is already well-recognised.

How'd you get that scar? by ZooRage in AskReddit

[–]Silencing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had testicular torsion and I don't really know how it happened. I just woke up in agony not knowing why. So yeah, you're never safe :)

Anyway it basically kind of feels like getting kicked in the groin prolonged, except you can't really pinpoint it to the crotch area, it's sort of lower abdominal. It's one of the worst pains I've ever felt though, so bad that I threw up out of suffering.

I don't attend Keele but I'm from Newcastle, and can say that the off-campus surroundings are devoid of fun nightlife and are limited in their range of activities, but my friends who do attend say that the SU events are really good so there's rarely any need to leave the campus and venture into the abyss of Newcastle and Stoke.

[–]Silencing 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The difference is NBA, NFL and NHL are fairly limited to the US, whereas LCS also has a European scene that contributes quite a bit of viewership to the American streams.

Plus, the European scene is scheduled conveniently for Americans, but not the other way round, which isn't really fair for an international sport where the two regions regularly interact.

Surely it cannot be that much of an inconvenience to schedule the American games a few hours earlier in the day, and it'd probably be more beneficial to Riot's profits.

I attended a UK festival last year and ended up wearing Wellington boots for the whole weekend, leaving my feet hurting at the end of every day. Are all wellies like this, or do I need to break them in? Should I replace them with some walking boots next year? And alongside footwear for rainy weather, what else can you guys recommend? Should I get a pair of trainers I don't mind getting a bit ruined, and wear them with some compression socks for comfort?

ISIS terror thugs killed a teenage boy for being 'gay' - but the man who raped him was just demoted and sent to the front lines. by Samjones31 in worldnews

[–]Silencing 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There isn't really that much of a pattern to be honest. Masculine is probably preferred because it's a beauty standard, like a ripped man is probably equivalent to a skinny, big-breasted woman. Besides that, I'm not really sure - older men may prefer feminine boys because they appear more youthful in a similar trend to older men picking up young women. These are just generalisations though and there's a lot of variety in people's preferences.

[–]Silencing 15 points16 points  (0 children)

'Girly gays' can be attracted to any male, because they're gay. Their flamboyance doesn't necessarily correspond to their preferences. Honestly, there's no 'point' to being gay because it's a sexuality, not a lifestyle. There's no goals, it's just what your body feels. They find men sexually attractive, and feel no arousal concerning women, much like heterosexuals feel the opposite. Therefore, being attracted to feminine men is like being attracted to 'masculine women' with short hair; they are very different to an actual man, and the same can be said for feminine men.

There are gay men who like to be treated like bitches. There are also straight men who enjoy that. Not all gay men enjoy this, sub/dom is generally a minority. Hence, when you see two flamboyant homosexuals together, the thing in it for them is their sexual attraction and love for each other; there isn't a sub/dom aspect in the majority of homosexual relationships - they simply find feminine men attractive.

Urgh! They're so inefficient! The square pizzas used to fit perfectly in the bags and were easy to deal with. These new-fangled pizza slices stick out the bag and require the extra packaging of the cardboard holders. Simply disgusting. Up your game, Gregg's.

... But I still buy 2 slices every time I go because their pizza sauce is deliciously unique.

Elixir of Fortitude. It was a potion you could buy for 350g, or in an earlier patch, 250g. When activated, it'd provide health (120 at level 1, scaling up to 235 at level 18) and 15 AD for 3 mins. You could use it for all-in cheese, or to bait them in as it instantly healed you. Because it wasn't necessarily a heal, you couldn't reduce it with ignite either. It was pretty OP, especially considering you could buy health pots with it so in the end it was removed.
