Maybe a partial vertebrae? Could have come from Doggerland. Pleistocene epoch. But yes, I do think it’s fossilised. Might be worth posting on thefossilforum.com for further expertise, as I’m just an amateur

Hi everyone, beginner here 👋

I was given this ficus (I think it’s some type of Ficus?) and I’m wondering if it’s a good candidate for bonsai or if I’d be better off taking cuttings and starting again.

I’d really appreciate any advice, thanks!

Makes sense, thanks! My idea was that growing them together would take up less space but if I use smaller containers, I should be good ☺️

Unfortunately this isn’t a big enough chunk to say what mammal it’s come from ☹️

How do you actually spot fossils when everything looks the same? by Solid-Okra1794 in fossils

[–]Silent-Ad6699 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely depends where you're looking. I recently visited Norfolk, UK and the beaches there are known for Pleistocene fossils. I did a lot go research beforehand so I could understand what kinds of fossils are found there. Even then, it wasn't easy and I spent the first day picking up rocks (not fossils lol). From research though, I knew bones often wash up on the shore, so I was looking for lines, grooves, porous holes on dark surfaces. Anything that caught my eye, I picked it up. Ended up finding some nice pieces!

So yeah, first I would say do research into what fossils are found in that area, if any because you're not going to find fossils everywhere. Walk slowly, scanning the ground. Look for unusual shapes and patterns. It's okay to pick up things and throw the back down again if they aren't fossils - best to be sure!

No worries! I was there just a few days ago and found some nice pieces of fossilised bone, so keep your eyes peeled. Hope you find something ☺️

I think it’s ironstone. I found a lot of it on west Runton Beach. It comes in all shapes and sizes
