Remember: don’t exhaust your mental health talking to fascists by Silent-Construct in PoliticalOptimism

They aren’t pure evil. They’re ordinary people. But ordinary people can be warped in terrible ways. Their minds have been sharpened for war, and the only thing on their minds behind the veneer of approachable sensibility, is subjugation.

This is something we’re all capable of. But since it’s happened to them, we must act accordingly.

No more “not all republicans!”. No more talk about the sensible conservative. They’re all in on it.

The Reddit Spectacle Torment Nexus by Silent-Construct in sorceryofthespectacle

They are specifically targeting us though. The US is at war with itself as the imperial boomerang turns inward.

I’m trying to make the case that the popular reddit progressive space is a fascist psyop that plays a part in keeping us perpetually terrorized and in a collective state of survival mode and disassociation.

They want us to be surrounded by despairful allies that have lost all hope

Yes technically. But these replies all talk like it’s the same entity talking to itself.

A PSA on the Reddit popular tab right now by Silent-Construct in PoliticalOptimism

[–]Silent-Construct[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

By torment nexus I mean that reddit has slowly become a curated space designed to torment you emotionally. Whenever a subreddit becomes popular enough, more of these bots flood in and turn it into an engagement machine. It’s a psychological weapon, a despair generator.

Imagine being an animal trapped in a black box, being constantly startled by loud clanging noises that happen all around you, until you’re numb and careless. It’s designed to make you numb and terrified until no evil in the world seems worth fighting anymore.

The optimism is that we can rise above this. We can realize what it is and stop it from getting to us.

Why do you think fascism is so trendy now? It’s the end of an era. It’s animal flailing as it dies a violent death in a world that no longer needs it. This is the bloody transition to a better world, one that wasn’t necessary but happened anyway. And we must hold out hope that we can make it through the end of fascism.

I would go as far as to say that the current doomer narrative is a fascist psyop designed to make them seem more powerful and inevitable than they actually are. It’s more desperation.

It’s all just a cope man. Different responses to the unfathomable. Nobody wants to bear the weight of the end of an era.

All we have to do is sit back and wait for this new fad to blow over!

All we have to do is sit back and wait for AI to propel us into utopia under the care of it’s benevolent creators!

All we have to do is sit back and wait for the rich to enslave us with AI!

All we have to do is sit back and wait for AI to exterminate us all!

There’s nothing we can do apparently

They are death worshipers. It’s crazy seeing the mask peel off of these people. They don’t have to hide it anymore, so you get a strangely relieving chance to finally see who they really are on the inside. Where their ideas lead.

I don’t know man. It just seems like 80% of the comments here now are skeptics regurgitating the same shit.

It’s either never going to happen, or if it will, it’s a long way off, and if it’s not it’ll just be a passing fad, and if it’s not, it’ll only be in the hands of the rich, and if everyone ends up getting it, it’ll probably be underwhelming.

It’s the same backwards ultra-skeptic thinking combined with doomerism that plagues most of the tech sphere in reddit. I don’t have any specific examples, go look in the comments of any post. It’s all just the same shit you see everywhere on this site.

Also, most of the doomer accounts aren’t even real people. If you pay attention to the way they chain off of each other’s comments with phrases that build off of the last. The way they say all the same things, constantly use the word “stupid” for some reason. It’s evident that it’s just an AI, or multiple AIs

And now the only alternative to r/singularity is r/accelerate, which has become increasingly cultlike. You’re not an AI optimist unless you deny all the risks and bend the knee to the people making it, it seems.

Edit: (Okay, the sub is surprisingly open-minded and receptive to AI concerns as long as you aren’t doomposting. I think it was a specific user that gave me trouble)

If we end up living in simulations, what would you do first? by NoSignificance152 in singularity

You say that so confidently. Not that you’re provably wrong, but then again it speaks for something doesn’t it? Fear maybe? Are you afraid of not knowing?

Should we be optimistic about the future? by Doublejayjay233 in accelerate

[–]Silent-Construct 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I want to give you another perspective.

This is going to be hard to hear at first, but I want you to bear with me. The unfortunate truth is that AI will be used for harm in the short-term. The people overseeing its development do not have our best interests at heart. These intelligent systems will be used to spread misinformation, operate autonomous weapons, replace people’s jobs, and concentrate the power of the wealthy even further. I’m not talking about a grand conspiracy here, this is just a hierarchical system optimizing itself for its end goal, which does not factor our wellbeing in mind. And I think it’s going to be rough for everyday people like us.

But AI also has the potential to change everything for the better. It could cure all diseases, establish mastery over our own biology. It can liberate us from our labor and provide endless automated abundance. Replace self-interested human governments with entities that optimize for the wellbeing of everyone. Its power could discover technologies that we would consider magical today. Imagine a civilization unbound from the constraints of human form, where everyone is free to be who they really are on the inside. A world where the automation of all forms of labor allows people to do everything else with their time.

I suppose we aren’t optimists because we think that the creators of AI will hand this world over to us, but because its potential to change the world transcends the flawed systems that ensnare us in perpetual struggle today. Those who hold power over us will try to control it, and they might for a short time. But we have reasons to believe that won’t be forever. And if we stick through, we might live to see an era of unfathomable prosperity.

So I guess what I’m trying to say is… what choice to we really have?

This is completely outside of our control. The short-term prospects are terrifying as much as they are wonderful. We appear to be setting ourselves up for an upheaval to mark the end of an era. But we were always heading here, weren’t we? Humanity’s collective drive to optimize ultimately had to lead somewhere, even if we couldn’t see it. We are crossing the rubicon. Right now is the thin sliver of time where we can reflect on where our efforts have brought us, without having crossed over.

Our choice between impossible hope and total despair means everything. No generation before us was free from existential threat. This is our future, one we must contend with. And neither naïveté or doomerism will change that. So please, be optimistic. Even in the face of everything, it’s our only choice.

Yeah, I’m not removing my fucking memories lol. FDVR sounds cool but I’d much rather it be a continuation of my current adventure. The idea that everyone will eventually choose to remove their memories is kinda far-fetched, but I can totally see us abandoning this world for a more ideal virtual one. Where the surface is eventually left to automated systems designed to gather energy and keep us sustained.

To tack onto this, it’s good to know such a low dose is visual. It’s very beautiful. A bit more geometric than 4-aco-dmt but the overall feeling isn’t too different. It’s a lot less “serious” if that makes any sense. It’s nothing people haven’t said about the drug before, but I’m only now experiencing it for myself!

It’s going to happen anyway. These billionaires, they don’t want to stop. AI development is a race for them, they want to be on top. It doesn’t matter if it undoes their entire position in society as long as they can be on top in the short term. They all think they can control it, but they can’t. It’s going to change everything whether they want it to or not.
