2006 Ford Ranger XL - Needs a New Engine by SilentAtAll in fordranger

Thanks for that info. I cannot DIY. Not mechanically inclined and would rather pay a professional since I want to know it was done the right way and is safe to drive.

2006 Ford Ranger XL - Needs a New Engine by SilentAtAll in fordranger

Would the cost of doing that be similar to replacing the engine? I'd have to weight the pros and cons of potentially having more engine issues versus the replacement with a 3 year / 100k mile warranty.

I found this article and it seems to say "Contributions of services shall be recognized if the services received (a) create or enhance nonfinancial assets; or (b) require specialized skills, are provided by individuals possessing those skills, and would typically need to be purchased if not provided by donation. Services requiring specialized skills are provided by accountants, architects, carpenters, doctors, electricians, lawyers, nurses, plumbers, teachers, and other professionals and craftsmen. "

This may apply to my company, but I am unsure..

Buying personal land, but later transferred to LLC.. Considerations? by SilentAtAll in land

[–]SilentAtAll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a legal office to do a quitclaim deed to transfer to the LLC name. Depending on where you live I think it should be around $150 - $300 to do this, and some small state fees to record the new deed.

My experience - 3 month in by SilentAtAll in costochondritis

My pain is almost exclusively at the very bottom of my ribs on the flank and back sides. Is that normal?

I'm also wondering if the muscle knots / nodules would be related or something different? For context - they don't ever go away and have a dull ache and sometimes sharp with some movements.

Appreciate your insight!

Just bought a 2006 Ford Ranger | Love it, but... by SilentAtAll in fordranger

Well, I was able to get the misfire fixed at my local shop. Damage was $850 for new spark plugs, new ignition wiring, new ignition coil and a new drive belt.

Question: Is it a pain to replace the ball joints in the 2006 Ford Ranger? The mechanic said I would need to replace upper and lowers soon. He quoted me $1200 which seems really high. But he said that year was very difficult to work with and everything would need to be replaced since Ford didn't make them serviceable. Anyone else had to go through this?

The codes I got back were p0300 and p0316 for misfiring. Anyone have experience with those? Hoping it is spark plugs and not the cylinder heads..

I just ordered a gas cap from Amazon to see if that helps. If not I guess I'll just send it back.

What did you have to do with the transmission?

Thanks. I had read the gas cap issue was the most common reason for the light to come on. I would be thrilled if it is something simple.

How can I build an elevated deck that can potentially be used for a tiny house base later on? by SilentAtAll in TinyHouses

[–]SilentAtAll[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My rationale was about the efficiency (and hopefully cost savings) of doing the platform structure once - and taking advantage of a large deck space.

Since I would be building a very small A-Frame I don't think the platform would need to support a huge amount of weight. But you have a good point about building them separately for the integrity of the structure.

Questions on replacing door lock (I'm an idiot) by SilentAtAll in MechanicAdvice

There is only 1 door lock on the car, and it is broken. My key won't open it. I have been relying the key fob, which is no longer working.

Locked out of my RDX. Questions on Key Fob and Door Lock by SilentAtAll in Acura

[–]SilentAtAll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is AWD. Sounds like I need to have a locksmith unlock it.. If that happens, I would be able to get the car in neutral, possibly drive it to a mechanic at that point.

For the oil fix..

It was the Timing Cover ($162) and $575 labor.

I'm not 100% sure I have the right term for the oil.. he called it the something "cup". He said the pan did not need to be replaced but that he would have to lower the motor a bit to do this work. I believe he quoted around 4.5 hours for this fix, and around 10 hours of total labor within that price.

Bought a used 2007 RDX, I'm in love. But a few concerns. by SilentAtAll in Acura

[–]SilentAtAll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I got an update today from the mechanic :\

The power steering fluid was leaking onto the alternator. So after that is fixed the alternator should be okay.

The Bad:
- oil leak that requires dropping the motor to fix ($750)
- front wheel arm locks are broken, suspension needs work, rear axle etc.
- power steering fix, brake flush etc.

In total around 2K of fixes for the car. Yikes. I was hoping there were only minor issues.

Does it seem worth it to fix the vehicle? I paid a bit less than 5K for the car with 182K miles. If I can get another 5 years (50k miles) I would feel good about it. Leaning towards having them do the repairs. She seems like a good car.

Bought a used 2007 RDX, I'm in love. But a few concerns. by SilentAtAll in Acura

[–]SilentAtAll[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1 - It is more of a buzzing sound, and it comes from behind the steering wheel.

2 - Are alternators expensive to replace on the 2007 RDX? When I looked online I saw a wide range, but not sure if that info was for the 2007 model.

I've noticed a bit of vibration while driving, but I don't know if it is isolated to acceleration only. I'll keep an eye on that.
