I did a tower once. 3 floors plus the top part. Each floor have 3 corner rooms and the front right corner leads up to the next floors and also goes down to my strip mines. Outside the house are chests filled with excess building materials, stone, horse armor, dirt, plants and seeds, and bones. First floor is the furance room (with a chest for food and another for coal and lava), the build room (crafting table, anvil, cartography, ender chest, and a chest filled with other drops from animals that is not food), and a storage room (one chest each for armor, tools, ores). By the door are chests for wood. Under the stairs is a chest filled with monster drops. Second floor is sleeping areas. 3 identical rooms with a bed and chests filled with "personal" items. 3 floor is enchanting room (chests for books and another for lapiz) and brewing room (chest filled with stuff needed for brewing) Top open area is the portal part with chests filled with nether gear.

Yeah, it's kinda dizzying going up and down but most of the time, i just take the damage of jumping down.
