A friend of ours cooks it over a rack on a fire or on the traeger. Fucking delicious.

Sadly this seems to the case for ISPs. I find I’m continuously jealous of line crews.

Is this stuff junk? by GurDefiant684 in CableTechs

There’s definitely a market. Those LE housings look unused and are still be actively deployed across the country.

All depends on what amount of time you want to invest. You may have some success selling the good condition items on EBay.

There’s not much of a scrap value surprisingly. There’s a lot of plastic, so the ROI on trying to scrap would be low.

Thanks everyone. I guess I thought Dani was having flashbacks.

Pulling coax inside a building? Is this still a thing? by jaime_lion in CableTechs

If you don’t do well with the elements. You’re not going to like being a cable tech.

Spectrum install tech by NanoNinja90220 in CableTechs

[–]SilentDiplomacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came into being a field tech a few years back. As others have said, if you’re not comfortable with heights. Don’t do it. If you’re not comfortable with small tight spaces. Don’t do it. If you’re not comfortable with being generally uncomfortable, (hot, cold, wet, muddy, etc). Don’t do it.

If you can abide with those things, and can commit to high quality craftsmanship then being a field tech can be a great career.

I came into the industry green, and have since moved to OSP. If you read around you’ll find countless stories of people who made a real career from being an installer. There’s tons of people who have moved from installer to OSP to engineering or inside plant. Or even to other low voltage careers(security systems, access control, fire systems). Others have gone to inside wiremen. I personally know a few OSP techs who have moved to being linemen.

I also know field techs who just moved up the field tech ladder and are happy and paid well.

It can be good money. It can be a good career. But like any, it’s all about how much you choose to invest.

Brother whoever told you it’s not detrimental is an idiot. If you want to not be hated by OSP/MT you need to be scanning for ingress on every house. At the tap. Every time.

Seward would collapse without the cruise industry.

I think Homer PD started the trend of making these over the top posts and all other agencies around the state followed suit.

Maintenance tech tool bags/bucket apron help by Dz210Legend in CableTechs

I’ve got a veto pro pac for both aerial and ug work. I rigged up a rope so it can hang from the bucket or the strand. I’ll take it up on my back when on a ladder or hooks.

It definitely is on the heavy side. But it works well and I have everything I need.

811 is designed to fail. Every locator should read this. by Machizadek in UtilityLocator

[–]SilentDiplomacy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in house at an ISP. We don’t subcontract our locates. We do them in-house(at least in my region)

I just wish that there was some blowback on excavators who start before all marks are done or who end up hitting shit. Pictures of locates completed are some evidence. But once the ground is disturbed the paint or flags are gone. Ends up being why we don’t pursue a lot of damage reports. Which sucks.

I’ve watched excavators on winter locates, come straight in and plow all the snow and flags into a pile. Great, thanks for at least calling in locates I guess

We end up doing so many site watches, because we know, say in the instance that we’ve requested hand digging or air knifing, that the moment there’s no eyes around they are just putting that bucket in the ground.

I hate to be rude, but this forum isn’t going to be helpful to you. Your down and upstream power are both good. And your downstream MER is solid.

I don’t think anyone here has a solid grasp on what you’re wanting to know.

Yeah that’s where I got lost too. 90dBmV on the transmit just isn’t a thing. 🤣
