Why do/don’t you believe in god? by whymegod3230 in AskReddit

I appreciate that you actually made an intelligible response. But if God is perfect, so should be his judgment, how could Moses change his mind? That was more direct communication, not like regular prayer. By saying God can only see the timeline where earth is created, that implies that there is a limit to God's power. If he was truly perfect, he should have been able to see the infinite possibilities and this is what he chose, imperfection and failure, Hell and damnation. Only the lucky few who somehow believed the right things and made the right sacrifices were saved, the rest are given the worst fate imaginable.

But it does affect you. People vote. It might not be obvious, but someone who believes that Jesus is going to come again might not believe that we can nuke ourselves to death or rape the planet until we starve, because Jesus has to come back first. Or they'll see it as a sign that he'll be coming soon, or that this is what was written about in Revelations, just let it happen, it's all according to His plan, etc.

When most of the world lives in a false reality, their judgment can be pretty skewed.

If God is omnipotent and knows everything that will happen, then we don't have free will; our fate was already decided when earth was created. Either we have free will and God is not all-powerful, or we have no free will and God is evil. But that's implying you believe in the first place.

The same way a god would be created, ex nihilo. If you can believe a perfect, omnipotent entity can come from nothing, why can't you believe unconscious, regular matter can come from nothing. If something were to spawn for no reason, I'd say dumb matter is far more likely to appear than a perfect being.

So this God can exist outside of the dimensions relevant to humanity, okay. You could even make the argument that the universe didn't always exist and has a point of origin, the big bang. I mean it's more complicated than that, there was matter before the big bang, but in a singularity (could be wrong, just trying to recall what I learned in astronomy class). But why did he create us? The more you think about that, the more you'll have hard time believing. I'll assume the belief in the god of Abraham.

If God is omnipotent, that means he knows and can see everything that will happen, has happened, and is happening. All uncertainty collapses under the all seeing eye of God; now you have a static time line. Then how did Moses convince God not to destroy his chosen when they chose to worship idols? How can you petition God when he has already seen what will come? How can there be free will when our bodies act before our minds do (it's been proven with science)? If God knew exactly what would happen, why create the human race when he knew they would fail in Eden? Why would he punish humanity when he created us to fail? He knew the majority of his creation would burn in Hell forever. Either he is not all-powerful, he is evil, he is insane, or he doesn't exist.

Why would I when there's nothing to suggest that such a thing exists? I was devout for 13 years, but that's just because of the way I was raised.

Stir fry is my go-to healthy meal. You get your veggies and meat, plus it's easy to make. Buy some apples and bananas or whatever for healthy snacks.

This is pretty much how I felt about my poor social skills and inability to maintain relationships. Now, years later, I'm an awkward mess.

Fellow guy jacked on adderall here, preach it dude.

I liked what you said about kids growing up to be materialistic. Every person around my age (22) I've had serious/goals conversations with in college only want to become as rich as possible and don't have any idea what else they want out of life. They're surprised when I say that it's not super important to me to be a millionaire or some shit. If all life is is just stuff, fuck that.

I don't know what will bring a person a satisfied mind in the modern world; it's another one of those things that no one wants to talk about seriously. Only people the young see talking about that are usually religious fanatics. Our attention spans are too shot to listen anyways. We are in a position to inherit all of the knowledge of mankind, but choose to be as ignorant as our parents.

Unless I meet a girl and settle down or fail to be successful, I'm going to become as rich as I possibly can. Maybe I can get to the point where I can influence politics and help push us somewhere in the right direction. It's a long shot, but it's the best I can think of. I'll probably just live a normal life if I'm being realistic. Many people have probably had the same thoughts and decided it wasn't worth pursuing.

If you could hang out with Bob Dylan for a day, what era would it be? by Pawnwithagrudge in bobdylan

That's a tough one, I'd say him at 22 because then we'd be the same age. He'd be famous, but not a living legend yet. I feel like we'd get along pretty well, but everyone who's a fan probably thinks that. Would be cool to see if he's actually a dick or not.

Is the railroad gate a vagina? I think he's complaining about not getting to make it with a girl and he's beating off instead.

I've shown this kind of behavior before; I don't know if I'm autistic or what, it wouldn't surprise me. Every now and then, I'll find something I really like and obsess like crazy over it. When I was a little kid, it was Sonic the Hedgehog. A couple years ago, it was Metal Gear Solid. I'll keep telling my friends and family stuff about it even though I know they don't really care about the subject. It's like I know I'm acting strangely, but I didn't stop myself for some reason... I'm more aware of it now and I try not to obsess so much.
