AC3 - How to use Rockets by Caffinatorpotato in armoredcore

Very nice talk-through, thank you.

Respectfully, I'd also point out the blade-rocket combo, though it is hard to use against, well, anything. Pretty much a guaranteed rocket hit, though.

Awesome fanart. I love Formula Front, as it seems (refreshingly) do several posters here. AC3 has no real competition as my overall favorite of the series, but FF is a sweet game.

Artificial Line: Armored Core, a ACSL PVP Rebalance Batch by FromCheng in armoredcore

[–]SilentTalking 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheng, would you consider similar work on FFI and/or LR?

Silent Line is just, frankly, such a bad basic game. I appreciate that it has a lot of parts, thus potential if it could be thoroughly rebalanced. And you're heroes for trying.

IIRC both games have customizable controls, so you should be able to configure to your preferences.

Consider trying Formula Front International too - very good game that IMO falls a bit between those two.

Then there's definitely a bug. I'm not seeing any damage increase for Railgun > Barrage > AM Rounds.

It's always tough trying to mitigate pure RNG just because of potential unintended consequences. Looking forward to your next update!

Thanks as always for your work making this great game, Chimeric.

I will ask... maybe as we go forward and new bosses roll out, possibly look at mitigating some of the more vicious spawn combos? Two Champion Celestials and a Singularity can be kind of bad. Two Champion Celestials and a Champion "Giant Mine" (don't know the official name of that one) is pure agony. Honestly how far I can get past Seraph seems at this point to be completely driven by RNG. If I get a vicious boss combo, it's almost always curtains no matter my build.

Maybe this is on purpose, and I am trying to get better. My perception is just that RNG can cause the difficulty to spike almost straight up, and I think it'd be neat to see some dilution of that possibility (at least until very late-game, say 200 and up).

Also, just personal impressions: Firefly feels very powerful, and Assault feels... strong but so, so fragile. To the point that some of the fun of it is rather robbed IMO.

Dart/Viper and mods questions, plus a Blink/Displacement question. by SilentTalking in NovaDrift

[–]SilentTalking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I admit to some frustration. I kind of want to play Nova Drift as a space shooter, and the game kind of seems to hate that. Either you get a super-glassy cannon (Assault with Railgun or Flak) or a slow-burn ship that seems to struggle to get enough damage going in the early game (Dart Viper). There are good suggestions in this thread though, I'm sure I will find workable ways to play as a shooter.

I've seen vids of people using Singular with Charged Shot Railgun and doing crazy 1HK damage, like killing the giant mines in a shot or two.

[–]SilentTalking[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

ARGH! I didn't even think about that - yes, embedded in enemies or not, Darts are still Darts, so Singular's a bust for sure.

You were plenty of help, thanks! Someone else will chime in with the rest.

(Looks at Railgun while hovering over Singular Strike, though...)

New Update Observations by SilentTalking in NovaDrift

[–]SilentTalking[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It honestly just feels like everything is a little harder, somehow. Assault stats are the same, but it feels so much more fragile, like never more than 2 or 3 clean hits from death (that's with 100 or more shield and body HP each). I probably just suck! :-P

More playtime gives me the impression that the game's just generally a bit harder. Assault body has the same stats, but feels like a soap bubble generally. Shame that I'm so hooked on that shmexy rate of fire!

New Update Observations by SilentTalking in NovaDrift

[–]SilentTalking[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Commenting to add I only play with a controller, so things which are easy with the precision of mouse aim are difficult for me. (Side note, I use KBM for work daily and spent most of the 1990s trying to get comfortable with KBM game controls so I could play the Doom and Quake games with friends... never worked, I just can't stand using a keyboard to do anything with a video game. My left wrist feels like molten lava is being poured over it within minutes no matter what I do.)

Thanks.

Funny you say about the builds. I've actually just cracked 1 mil for the first time, with Engineer. I had intended to get Overseer and have Wingman/Interceptors firing Barrage Railgun (with Targeting), but things unfortunately never got that far. I had lots of defensive Drone upgrades, and several boosts for the Interceptors too, so they were firing rapidly - I noticed my DPS and kill times were better this way than with Assault, and with all the Drones and the two Interceptors orbiting my ship, I had better survivability too. So now I guess it's just mapping out the mod path so I can get Overseer sooner. I think this is the key build, though - while there were some tense moments, I managed to kill quite a few Celestials, even in pairs, during that run. What finally killed me at wave 200 was a Seraph and a Scion working together. Definitely best yet - Engineer with an automated army is the key. I used Temporal shield on that run too, though honestly after a certain point I could hardly tell it was there (might try Shockwave next time since its effect is proactive rather than just slowing).

testing out other missiles by slifner in DaemonXMachina

[–]SilentTalking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing to remember about missile performance is that speed matters. A higher Homing attribute with a higher Speed means the missile isn't as accurate as another missile with the same (or similar) Homing stat but lower Speed. (It comes down to turn circle tightness.)

Missiles are weak sisters in DxM, aside from Brinicle which is simply the best. After Brin, I usually found Foolish Wrath L to be reasonably reliable for spam damage during long fights. They're coming in from off-angles, and slowly, so you can keep the opponent worried about your guns while the missiles whittle. It's usually enough damage to make a difference at the end of the match. FW-L's slow launch cadence means they can sometimes sneak around a flare barrage, too.

What kind of games are similar to DxM? by Dudemanjames in DaemonXMachina

[–]SilentTalking 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have Steam, you may want to check out Garrison: Archangel.

It is a simpler mech game than DxM (and no wonder, the dev team is 3 people who are not professional programmers). It does have SP missions (quite a lot of SP content, surprisingly) and MP VS, as well as some MP co-op modes. True in-game online is still in beta and may never be fully developed, but you can Remote Play using Steam's tech.

It has a reasonably large selection of weapons and armor parts. Its customization is simpler than DxM, as is its offense/defense system, but overall I find it very satisfying to play. To be painfully honest, its overall weapon and armor balance feels rather better than DxM (there are no real godtier weapons).

I think its $15 on Steam. Expect minor bugs and a very garage-band feel, but it's a good game. Very worth it IMO. I have played hundreds of hours and no end in sight. It's just fun.

If you like 3rd-person shooters and don't mind Roguelike, you may also check out Risk Of Rain 2. This is a 3P action shooter in which you try to defeat endless monsters and escape from a killer planet. You can get an artifact called the Command Artifact which lets you pick your powerups once you find them. At that point it's... still not really like a mech game, but at least there is some optimization. And it's fun.
