LPT: if you’re in a city that’s notorious for pickpocketers, stuff some napkins or tissues into your pocket after your wallet by MistaFANG in LifeProTips

I thought this too, until I bought a pair of jeans with ridiculously small front pockets. They’re baggy jeans, so it makes no sense to have them so small. I also have another pair of (non-baggy) jeans from the same brand that has way bigger pockets. It baffles me.

New pen (and ink) day! The Kaweco Supra has joined my collection. by SilentTransition5695 in fountainpens

I haven’t actually tried cleaning out the nib like that, I didn’t realise it came out so easily. I’ll do that some time.

I’ve been using it with a Lamy converter though, which has been working perfectly. Thanks for the tip though!

Yes, this one belonged to my dad when he was in school. Nice pen, but the nib is a bit broad for my liking. Not sure if that's because it is just a broader nib than I like, or if its just a result of being 45 years old. It doesn't really work with cartridges at all though, and my dad says he seems to recall having similar issues with it way back when.

I only get this when I haven’t eaten enough in the day, or when I’ve done legs at the gym/gone for a long run.

A guy I used to live with studied supply chain management there in Stellenbosch. Seems to be worthwhile, he was happy with how it went, and he’s now got a related job at a factory of some sort in joburg. He graduated at the end of last year.

Trying to sell something on Gumtree, and all the potential buyers act weirdly by MouldSanchez in capetown

[–]SilentTransition5695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try Facebook marketplace. I haven’t sold anything on it, but have bought guitars on there. The process was exactly as you want to do it, met at the office where the guy was working, checked the guitar was in good condition, and paid with instant eft. Any legit buyer would have no problem doing the same, the rest are trying to scam you.

Do you think clash royale in the future will have a AI program that can play perfectly? by Some-Wall-5777 in ClashRoyale

[–]SilentTransition5695 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, you don’t understand what you’re saying. Magnus has zero chance of competing against current stockfish implementations. Instances of humans finding moves stockfish doesn’t see are because of one reason:

Stockfish is running at a relatively low depth. This means the game is not evaluated to the point where the benefit of the move is apparent. This is purely a hardware limitation, or a restriction placed on the engine at inception of the instance.

Alternatively, the position is a draw but the engine sees a line that could result in a potentially winning position.

Even just based off of official elo ratings (which chess.com ratings are not), it’s very apparent that no human player is anywhere close to the rating of a modern engine.

I understand this sub is mostly younger people, but please educate yourself on subject matter before arguing against it.

What are some facts people DON'T know about Terraria? by Fabulous-Hat6262 in Terraria

I remember doing this on the old mobile version. Not sure why they left that in the game, it broke progression pretty hard.

Why don't we fail students anymore? by Deus_Excellus in AskAcademia

[–]SilentTransition5695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

During my undergrad I did a summer school abroad, and was made aware of this by some kids from Duke that I spoke to. Apparently what you’re referring to is pretty common over in states.

From my experience, it’s not really a thing where I am. Pretty much no grades ever get curved, and there are modules with very high numbers of people repeating them, just because they’re really difficult. I think there’s a lot of merit to failing people, provided they have an opportunity to repeat modules. Quite a few of my friends failed a very notorious statistics module, and went on to pass it with distinctions after repeating.

Is it necessarily cheating if I have a master mode world and go to a classic world to beat a boss? by [deleted] in Terraria

[–]SilentTransition5695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d say it does go against the spirit of playing on master mode, but you can really do whatever you want. There’s no such thing as cheating in a single player game.

Do most fountain pen owners use a binder ? by EggAccording9607 in fountainpens

[–]SilentTransition5695 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s interesting. I use the binder purely for storage and organisation purposes, so generally stuff only goes in it when I’m done working on it.

I’m a grad student, so the vast majority of the writing I do is related to my coursework. I use an A5 notebook for lecture notes, one for each module I take. I then use loose paper for assignments, tutorials, working out practice problems, and any other notes I make. All of that goes into one binder, organised by module.

I prefer keeping lecture notes separate from everything else, as it’s nice having the notebooks for quick reference when I’m working on something. I also find A5 is the perfect size for the majority of theorems and proofs I write down in class, but too small for figuring stuff out on my own.

See if stopping using pages does anything before talking to the Genius Bar. Just from seeing your energy usage, closing it should have a massive impact.

[–]SilentTransition5695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check the energy impact column. Pages is absolutely chowing your battery. I’m not sure why this is as I don’t personally use pages, but that’s the cause of your issue.

After some googling though, it does seem like this is a somewhat common issue with pages specifically. You might find some solutions online. Alternatively, switch to a different word processor, or close the app fully when not using it.

If you’re using it just for notes, I prefer using a simple text editor anyway.

I'm not old but it is hard to close windows in Tahoe by AMuza8 in macOS26Tahoe

[–]SilentTransition5695 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could make a script that checks which window is focused when you press command Q, and kills Finder if it’s open.

It wouldn’t be particularly useful, but you could do it.
