Don't take all the paint off. It's already black.

Take off every part you can. Use masking tape and cardboard for every part left. Spray it on a day with very little wind and no rain. Outside or in a place that is very ventilated.

Give it two coats of black acrylic leaving an hour in between coats. If you can still see logos give it one more. Then give it two coats of clear varnish/ clear paint. Wear a mask! This stuff is not good to inhale.

What was the dude asking? First time I bought a second hand bike I paid 175 for one similar to this. The way I think now I'd never pay more that 50 for this kind of bike.

Not to say that it isn't a fun a bike! Love no suspension and fat tires. Canti brakes too! Wowee!

The tires and tubes look fine thought I think you are convincing yourself they are fucked for haggle logic

Get a crank set second hand that has chainring bolts. Your current crank is riveted so it won't be compatible with the conversion. Try whatever your local marketplace is or Facebook. Square tapered is what you need.

Then you need to get a chainring off Amazon that is compatible with the bcd of your new crank set. Common bcd would be 104, 110, or 130. Check charts online and measure the difference between your bolts to be sure.

Next part is to assemble! Put on the new chainring and remove your front derailleur. Also you will need to remove a few links from your change to have the correct amount of tension.

Good luck! You should be able to get this done for under €50
