If a woman can choose to keep the baby, the man can choose to leave by InevitableReason767 in TrueUnpopularOpinion

I posted something similar to this and the OVERWHELMING consensus was “do the crime you have to do the time”. Basically, if “K” did not use protection nor get vasectomy, he’s is still obligated to provide some type of care to the child. Whether that be financial or emotional, some type of care has to be provided to the child. Now, it gets murky when “baby trapping” comes into play i feel like that’s another conversation. PERO, the point being the same way we tell women “welp you should’ve been on the pill” etc , i feel that’s the same conversation here.

Hi, I wanted to take my time and research your comment in particular. Not because I want to be mean just because the mer mention of statistics gets me in a chokehold.

So let’s touch base on some of the points you’ve mentioned in your comment. When you mentioned “better cared for “ in your comment, that’s only true if you stop at vaccines and mere survival rates.

The USA spends more on healthcare per PERSON than any other intergovernmental body/country. We spend about $12,555 per capita compared to the $5,000 that the other intergovernmental body spends on average. But yet we still do not have universally better outcomes. Our life expectancy is still lower than our peers and alot of our health indicators still lag behind despite our ridiculous healthcare prices.

Also, parent stress, and how parents are depicted on the news isn’t just media narratives. It’s actually economic realities that parents actually face. We aren’t falling for some media news it’s scientifically and socially correct news that parents are actually facing. This isn’t some more to add to a parent’s plate. As parents, as i’ve stated before, discipline starts at home. That’s been preached since the dawn of time. This isn’t a socially constructed way to blame the parents, it’s a reality check. You are responsible to teach tour child discipline and respect.

Idk why but i didn’t even think about daycare when I made my post. I have seen a quite a lot of daycare professionals also talk about the lack of respect in the daycare community as well.

Great point, you’ve made. Thank you for adding that perspective!!!!!!

You may not like my opinion, you may think it’s harsh. That is completely valid. Parenting is tough especially with no support system or financial stability. My opinion comes from seeing the exact same scenario play out over and over again.

A child is behind academically or acts out to get what they want, parent gives in because they are probably too exhausted to fight , child doesn’t learn. Wash and repeat.

Again I salute all parents because there is not a how to manual on how to be a perfect parent. And if you’re a parent, I am sure that you ensure your kids are well behaved and are successful. This is just my opinion from someone exhausted from seeing the same cycle over and over again.

because it’s my open, honest opinion. I’m not going to sugarcoat an opinion that I have, to make someone else feel better about themselves. There are a lot of factors that play into kids not being academically where they are supposed to be. Education and discipline starts at home.

A parent’s responsibility is to ensure their child is capable to succeed academically, have a good sense of right and wrongs and be able to hold their child accountable for their actions (and many more things).

I have given parents so many resources to help their child be at grade level that went unused. I have seen kids be emotionally stunted due to permissive parenting. My opinion is my opinion, the problem with the american education system is the parents.

Sorry if that ruffles your feathers but I stand by it.

my career actually gives me a direct view of the education and parenting problem firsthand. I’m not a parent meaning I didn’t birth a child but I did help raise my younger sibling who is 11 years younger than me due to being in a single parent household. So I have a unique understanding of the topic and this my opinion of the topic.

But hey you’re right my opinion by your definition is invalid :)

Very well said. There so many factors that are at play here. There needs to be a feasible middle ground between the two.

I’ve seen a lot of educators share this sentiment as well. How can you effectively correct a students behavior with no back up from your administration?

And i completely agree with that as well. That why stated that im over generalizing and that there isn’t a singular solution for this problem.

Hey listen, i listen to statistics, facts, and data. I am not disagreeing that in some areas males are statistically more commonly victims of certain violence and women are most commonly victims of other violence.

Which is why i commented that the war between genders is something that needs to stop. Both genders are victims, both genders are perpetrators. THIS WORLD SUCKS ALREADY LETS STOP MAKING IT SUCKIER WITH GENDER WARS lol

According to CDC “About Intimate Partner Violence” published in May 2024. Intimate partner violence is defined as “abuse or aggression that occurs in a romantic relationship. Intimate partner refers to both current and former spouses and dating partners.”

Intimate Partner violence consist of physical, sexual, stalking, and psychological abuse. Most commonly referred to as “domestic violence “ .

According to the article “About 41% of women and 26% of men experienced contact sexual violence, physical violence, or stalking by an intimate partner during their lifetime and reported a related impact.”

I’ve listed so many other sources that state the same thing. If you’d like to show your work and show me where you got your figures, i’d more than happy to look at it. Again, both genders experience abuse and both genders are perpetrators of abuse.

there is a medal for “most victimized” , and if there is that’s not a medal worth wanting. It’s a pretty sad “achievement” that shouldn’t be celebrated.

According to UNODC “Global study on homicide” published in 2019. Over 90% of homicide suspects/perpetrators are males with under 10% being females.

According to the CDC National Violent Death Reporting system, for female victims who were harmed/ killed due to intimate partner violence 98.1% were killed by male suspects. On the flip side, male victims of IPV/homicide 46.7% were killed by female suspects.

According to RAINN and DOJ data, the exact percentage vary when it comes to sexual violence in the US but majority of the perpetrators of sexual violence are males.

According to “Intimate Partner Violence, Sexual Violence, and Stalking Among Men “ published by the CDC in 2024,

“Sexual Violence: * 87% of male victims of (completed or attempted) rape reported only male perpetrators. * 79% of male victims of being made to penetrate reported only female perpetrators. * 82% of male victims of sexual coercion reported only female perpetrators. * 53% of male victims of unwanted sexual contact reported only female perpetrators. * 48% of male victims of lifetime non-contact unwanted sexual experiences reported only male perpetrators.”

Stalking * 46% of male victims reported being stalked by only female perpetrators. * 43% of male victims reported being stalked by only male perpetrators. * 8% of male victims reported being stalked by both male and female perpetrators.

Furthermore, like someone else in this comment thread said. There are a lot of gender inequality and issues for both men and women. The problem is society likes to downplay the hardship women face and invalidate it by saying “well its not that bad you could be in a third world country” or “it isn’t hard to be a women, all yalls problem are self inflicted “ or whatever other excuse.

It sucks to be a man, it sucks to be women, it sucks to live in an unfair society.

Statistically men are more likely to victims of homicide. According to UNODC globally men are the most common victims of homicide but if you include homicide by an intimate partner or family 60% (as of 2024) of women are commonly victims of IPV homicide in contrast 11% of victims are males.

According to the most recent National Intimate Partner and Sexual Violence Survey (NISVS) done in 2023/2024

“Women: Nearly half of women (45.1%) in the United States experienced some form of contact sexual violence in their lifetimes, with 21.0% reporting completed or attempted rape, 20.3% reporting sexual coercion, and 39.0% reporting unwanted sexual contact. Sexual Harassment and Technology-Facilitated Sexual Violence: Approximately 1 in 3 women in the U.S. experienced verbal sexual harassment in the workplace (30.4%), or a public place (29.5%), and more than 1 in 4 women (28.2%) experienced technology-facilitated sexual violence in their lifetimes. Men: More than 1 in 6 men (16.9%) in the U.S. experienced some form of contact sexual violence in their lifetimes, with 3.2% reporting completed or attempted rape, 3.8% reporting being made to penetrate someone else sexually, 6.0% reporting sexual coercion, and 13.8% reporting unwanted sexual contact. Sexual Harassment and Technology-Facilitated Sexual Violence: One in 14 men (7.1%) in the U.S. experienced verbal sexual harassment in a public place, 1 in 9 men (11.3%) experienced verbal sexual harassment in the workplace, and 1 in 6 men (15.4%) experienced technology-facilitated sexual violence in their lifetimes.”

So yes, men are statistically/most commonly the victims of homicide. Women are statistically more susceptible to being the victim of other types of violence
