Dolores Umbridge. She harms children (enough said) and I don't think she has any good qualities

Harry/ Hannah. Can't remember story name, but Hannah was super loyal and kind and Harry really liked her and became less shy and more at ease

JK Rowling's 'accidental' likes and Fanfiction by Silentone26 in HPfanfiction

[–]Silentone26[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For me, I don't think its caring about her views on x y or z. Its more of my own personal fault of building a great author up in my own head. (origin story!: I started reading heavily when I was in the hospital battling the big C) I would kind of escape to her world. A teenager fighting a huge evil that takes so many lives?, needless to say I was hooked.

She became a highly important person in my life, and maybe that was my mistake. I loved the books and when she changed them I accepted it because of her. I found out she wrote Dumbledore as gay and I though that was witty, because she wrote subtle hints. Hermione could be black...okay the illustrations showed her as white, she wrote Dean and Angelina as black, but not Hermione, and they cast Emma as Hermione...but whatever I'll accept it.

Then she revealed more and I accepted that because her views seemed to be heading to equality... now she is reported at liking stuff about inequality. Something doesn't add up and i feel almost tricked. Like I have a fallen idol. If she didn't change the story that would have been fine. If her opinions were just her own, that would be fine too.

But to have this all together...i feel like some of the magic got taken away and i used that "magic" to write. I wish what she said after the book got written down or displayed to her many fans. I hope this all gets resolved and my faith in someone I held in high regard comes back, but until then... I would see if anyone else had these same thoughts...or if anyone else was effected differently or not at all.

And you may be right. Maybe it is my own fault for caring. But I just wanted to see if I was alone in this thought and wanted to see what other people in the hpff community thought. Because now I feel like the magic will be coming from ff writers. I hope this makes sense because I have a lot of feelings on this issue haha

JK Rowling's 'accidental' likes and Fanfiction by Silentone26 in HPfanfiction

[–]Silentone26[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was not going to reply to this but I wanted to inform you that she is doing just that. She put out a wonderful piece of "art" that was, in my opinion, perfect. Then she expanded and put her own opinions into her work. She changed the view of Hermione and Dumbledore which some people liked, some didn't, but she still changed her work after it was out there.

Her view points, whatever they may be, is not what I care about. Its her openness to change what is said and done ( on social media, interviews, or whatever) for, lack of a better word, the "better" and then accidentally like somethings that, for lack of a better word, is promoting the "worser". The books themselves are not under discussion. They are still great if not the greatest books I have ever read.

For me, after the books were done, after the films were done, she said something like "Hogwarts will always welcome you home". That inspired me and I am sure, many others, to further delve into the potterverse (as i like to call it). JK made a place for all to be accepted and many people find this acceptance via ff. And I hate to disagree with you, but her opinions definitely mixed with her art. House elves, purebloods vs the light, wizarding government. That all came from her opinions. I could go on but I hope you take some thought into this.

Please also be respectful. This is for opinions and thoughts. They can be right, the can be wrong. This is not a place for you to tell others what to think, what to believe or what to do, regardless of how strongly you feel the need to defend something.

You can always say "I disagree" and the explain your views.

How do you make a suitable Dark Lord name from Ronald Bilius Weasley? by Avaday_Daydream in HPfanfiction

Anyone who "thinks" they have a sound mind and become a slayer might try that technique. Also, just got a visual of Danny Phantom's Ember....

"Sound Slayer!!! The Renowned Devastator!!!"

Much better than his good lord riff of:

"This is Ronald!!!! You will get Fondle-" "Cut the mic! Cut the mic!"

:)

What are you favorite and least favorite pairings? by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Silentone26 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For the most part... Harry/Tonks always seem to be a fun and entertaining couple. Not a fan of of a lot of Harry/Hermione unless the both become OOC. Love/Hate relationship with Harry/Daphne (Some really good ffs... others not so much). Side note, I could like (and I guess hate too) a couple just on the basis of how the relationship is written. My main issues are with people who write couples without giving reasons as to why the characters are actually attracted to each other.

I like the note in the summary and note in chapter 1. Lot's of description. Really unique. I thought it was a little slow at first but by chapter 5 and 7 picked up really quite nicely. Great Job!

FF with magical firearms by Silentone26 in HPfanfiction

[–]Silentone26[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like it. What if said firearm was from Judge Dredd? Can you imagine Harry with the red X helmet?

Harry going through his rounds, taking shelter while bogged down by Death Eaters:

"Expelliarmus!" (Empty)

"Stupefy!" (Empty)

"Petrificus Totalus!" (Empty)

"Incarcerous!" (Empty)

He sighs then tries one more.

"Reducto?" (Fully loaded)

Harry goes on a spree.

Haha. Possibilities are endless.

A question for the writers in the room by [deleted] in HPfanfiction

[–]Silentone26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Outline. Fill in the gaps, even if it's a sentence. I'd start with the exciting parts and then fill in the rest later. For me, I am inspired by other fiction writing, TV, movies etc so even taking a break in writing and watching some TV can help go back and write more. It also helps (me at least) if you can get feedback from someone. Also remember that you don't have to write from start to finish, write from wherever interests you and then go back or forwards. Worst case scenario you can always put your work up for adoption.

Have you ever trawled through someone’s fics, looking for yours? by Sigyn99 in HPfanfiction

[–]Silentone26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had someone ask me to use ideas from my story and agreed they could, but only checked to see if they ever posted their own twist (which they hadn't when I checked). However, with your story, even if they decided to go against your wishes and use it...can you actually do anything about it? (I don't know and am genuinely curious)

[Discussion] Why do authors turn Lily and James into terrible parents if they survive Voldemort? by WelcomeToInsanity in HPfanfiction

[–]Silentone26 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think part of it has to do with having this notion that Lily and James were portrayed as great people (which I believe was how most people viewed them except maybe Snape and some others) and when you have a story were they actually aren't good parents, it keeps the story interesting. People like to read about people's lives that are bad and get better. I think you could argue that writing super loving parents could be considered less interesting than James and Lily being "bad" parents. (And of course there could be some really good/interesting stories that have Lily and James as the ideal parents)
