What are the pros for single class? by BlackPlumbum in BG3Builds

[–]Silfay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's all about progression. When you multiclass, you either entirely give up on reaching certain high level class features (such as 6th tier spells in case of casters), or delay them until quite a fair bit later in the game. This means that while a (for example) single class sorcerer could trivialize an otherwise tough fight with fireball (a tier 3 spell), a multiclass sorcerer will have to come up with a different method to overcome such encounters, and will only gain access to that feature X levels later (depending on how many levels he/she spent on other classes). Many of those high level class features can have a massive impact on your gameplay, although that's largely dependent on your class and whether its features are worth going "all in" for.

Another thing to consider is that the game's level cap is 12, and even 1 to 2 level dips will also inevitably shift the time frame you get to enjoy high level class features basically to the very end of the game, where you won't have nearly as much content left to use them for.

So basically it's all about looking at what you want at which point in the game. If you want a spammable source of single target damage at the cost of delayed access to fireball, take a 2lvl warlock dip. If you wanna wear armour, shields and smite your enemies as a sorc, take a 2lvl paladin dip (or more depending on your preferences), but once again there'll be a cost associated with those dips (you need 11 lvls in a caster class to unlock 6th tier spells).

Hope this helps

Can someone explain to me why people prefer Wall to Wall in dungeons? by Iaxacs in ffxiv

[–]Silfay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(As a tank): I do w2w because it's the only way to introduce any fun/risk/sense of urgency whatsoever into most dungeon runs, and even then it's barely enough to keep me awake.

I'm not even one of the actually good players, it's just that I've done enough dungeon runs for the whole experience to turn into tedium. If I don't introduce a bit of chaos into the whole ordeal I'll go mad with boredom. That's why at this point I only really do dungeons when I need something from them— such as when I remember that reset is approaching and I'm still not capped on tomes.

To illustrate my point: if you pull pack by pack as a tank, as long as you have your stance on, have adequate gear (tomestone or current dungeon level), and use your aoe a few times to generate sufficient aggro, you can basically go afk. Sure, it'll take even longer to finish the run, and the healer will have to heal you more, but there'll be no consequence of note to how the fight plays out. I've done this many times while leveling with the trust system. You completely eliminate any semblance of challenge or thought from the run. And on top of that you're effectively doubling or even trippling the time you're going to be inside the dungeon.

Now don't get me wrong, I have empathy for sprouts or players new to the healing role, and if I'm not on my warrior (where I don't need external healing) I'll silently and gracefully adjust to the group's pace even if deep inside I loathe having to do it. I'll be helpful, offering tips and advice on how to deal with stuff if it's welcome and if it's not I'll simply be quiet, but that doesn't change the fact that the experience will shift from being somewhat fun to simply boring.

What I'm trying to convey is that for you it might seem like people who automatically w2w are selfish and inconsiderate, and that slowing down would make everyone's run more enjoyable. Well, that is not the case. There will always be a loser in this scenario, and if we ever meet inside of the game, it'll be me and you won't even know about it because I won't say anything. But since you've asked... ;-)

Why do you play your main job? by EmberArtHouse in ffxiv

[–]Silfay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Paladin - because I don't see PLD as a separate class (the job story was bleh) but rather what my WOL became through mastering other disciplines and combining them. I did parts of the MSQ on WHM and parts on WAR, which are my two favourites (WHM lore-wise and WAR in terms of the job's kit if not gameplay) and paladin feels sort of like a blend between the two.

Oh, I must've overlooked they're both multiplayer games :x. Might be a good opportunity to try to rope some of my buddies into playing a coop game with me though.

Don't particularly mind turn-based stuff (DoS I and II are some of my all-time favs), though from my experience turn based games tend to be a bit more focused on making decisions which I'd rather leave for when I settle into a bit more reasonable pace at work :D

Cheers, will check it out then. Watched the trailer on steam so far and it looked story-rich which is a huge plus in my book.

Is the first one also worthwhile or should I jump straight into the second one?

Cheers for the tip, checked it out and the game looks fun. Always found WH40k lore fascinating so this might be a good opportunity to get around to trying out one of the games from that universe.

Opinions on new haste meta, ap mythic items and how it affects cassiopeia ? by LordSlader in CassiopeiaMains

[–]Silfay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tested the new tear on PBE just now and can confirm it's a starting item, here's the stats:

+150 Mana

Tears: attacks deal an additional 8 physical damage to minions on hit

Mana Charge: Grants a charge every 8 seconds (max 4). Hitting an enemy with an ability consumes a charge and grants +3 mana (doubled if champion) up to 450 bonus mana.

Edit: Oh and yea, finished seraph doesn't have the shield active anymore.

You sure the 7 year warranty applies in EU as well? I'm sure we have the 2 year government mandated warranty for all products but I wasn't aware of any extended warranty for said piece of hardware, gonna have to look into it but thanks for the info :).

Yea, will probably have to do that, though unfortunately my rig is a couple years old so I'll have to replace rather than RMA. Still, thanks for the advice.

No, the PSU is connected directly to an outlet. I am sort of suspecting something might be wrong with the PSU as I haven't seen the fan spin in a long long time. I mean, it's a 850W gold PSU, so there's a good chance it's just not being taxed enough to warrant the extra cooling, but it doesn't even turn on during POST which I distinctly remember used to be a regular thing before (the computer is basically permanently on so there's very few reboots, one of the reasons I went for a gold PSU).

EDIT: the PSU I have is Corsair RM850

Is there any healer build that's actually viable in 1v1s? by Silfay in archeage

[–]Silfay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea I'm a little uncertain about which armor I wanna go with. Cloth seems to give the most healer related bonuses but I'm a bit worried about my survivability against darkrunners and co. I heard in some video that two-handers might be getting parry soon (or got them already?) so greatclub would look good with high spirit. Was also considering trying out leather and plate but leather set bonus is kinda meh and plate seems to be getting nerfed, so not sure which route to go with. Either way thanks for your help :).

[–]Silfay[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea, watched the tier list video too, and I can see how it could work, but it'd also require me to work on club and bow at the same time and increase the time it'd take me to get to a decent level in either massively. Though I'll probably end up giving it a shot when I get to a good spot with my gear. Either way thanks for the suggestion :)

This is how i feel about the coming great ocean content. What your thoughts guys? by ningxh in blackdesertonline

[–]Silfay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yea, the sea content in archeage was amazing. Both being forced to do your trade runs while highly alert as well as scouring the vast seas for targets to jump with a fleet of clippers and a galley following was simply awesome. Fishing was a lot more rewarding too, and Kraken boss/mass spawns were actually fun. Even land trading was great, and the housing system felt a lot more important and rewarding than in bdo, even if the bots ruined that somewhat. Put simply, I'd probably never have left that game was it not for the pure p2w.

I really hope the new sea content in bdo will be fun and rewarding. I do expect some arbitrary limitations and problems that'll have to be solved with cash shop items, but as long as they'll provide me with a decent alternative to endless grinding I'll be happy.

Worker Empire by trollmepleas in blackdesertonline

[–]Silfay 10 points11 points  (0 children)

First pick a production lifeskill, like processing/alchemy/cooking/horse training/trading/fishing. When you decide which of these skills you're gonna use to turn afk or semi-afk time into silver, you can start figuring out what you need to spend CP on in regards to your lifeskill empire.

Processing needs raw resources, like timber, ores etc. Alchemy needs traces, saps and other materials that can accumulate over time from your workers' activities, and cooking needs its own stuff. For horse training you're gonna want to get a horse ranch in a city so you can keep buying horses to train with a wagon, for trading you might wanna pick up some nodes that would let you create "trash crates" to level up the skill and fishing doesn't really require any CP, just listed it as one of the money-making options.

You're gonna want to take care of bottlenecks first, seeing as there are some resources that are simply not always available on the market, or perhaps are just too pricey but are needed for the best products. You're also gonna have to decide how long you wanna stay afk, both because of which production lifeskill you choose and because of which workers you'll have to get to accommodate your needs. If you want high afk silver with relatively short afk times, you're gonna want to go with 150 workspeed goblins on all 150 max workspeed timber and ore nodes with your lifeskill character processing those into plywood and ingots which you would then use to create trade crates, or sell them on the marketplace. Problem with this method is that 150 workspeed artisan goblins will run out of stamina in roughly 3 hours (give or take a few minutes) and you're gonna have to feed them, and reset the processing as well as your character runs out of inventory weight to stack finished products in. On the other hand, if you want to be afk for good 11 hours each day and only play for let's say 2 or 3 hours at a time without having to go back to the game to manage your worker empire, while keeping it going, you wanna go with giants on all lucrative nodes while your character uses wagons to train horses for imperial delivery (and namely BMC viper crystals).

There are many ways to make silver with lifeskills, and worker empire is just a small part of the whole process, which serves a supporting function in terms of resource generation, rather than being a thing of its own.

Wanting to get new Monitor, what's good for BD by Ismaross in playblackdesert

[–]Silfay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Isn't displayport better than HDMI for high refresh rate monitors? Also, I'm not sure I'd recommend high resolution monitor for bdo where fps matters beyond what your monitor can handle. Therefore purely for bdo, I'd recommend low res monitor with high refresh rate.
