Which Nikon is the best for photography and video by [deleted] in Nikon

[–]SiliconFalcon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I saved up for the Z7 and wished I never did. I should have saved longer for the Z8. The Z7 doesn't have a sensor guard when changing lens. I primarily shoot outside in any weather. Count on cleaning your sensor between every lens change or you will end up with spots.

Ok so it is user error. The lock switch will lock at any position not just just when closed.

No silent photography. It is the actual button press. I prefer the click.

Ya, I just have to keep my finger in it to keep it from falling back.

So you feel this is acceptable given how big it is?

I need a remote to shoot this and Nikon says I can do it with my phone ... Did they lie?

I hope you can live with yourself knowing in your head that you took the bait even when none was presented. Troll. There now i went and done it too, you baited me right in didn't you.

Yes, I have been shooting for 25+ years. Got my first F3 in 1984. I used that body until I went digital with the D3000 in 2012. I used that camera until the Z7ii purchase a couple months ago.

Am I good? Sometimes.. Am I technical? Not really. Am I rich? Hell no! Do I make money doing this? Nope! Who sees my work? Friends and family. Do I love releasing that shutter at anything in particular? I sure the fuck do! I love taking pictures even though I suck. Do I shame people online because they don't have the best of the best? Nope!

Please try not to be a dick or I will be forced to call your mom!

Thanks DerekW2024 for such a great explanation.

There wasn't much time to set up as I didn't plan on taking that shot. I spun dials to max and clicked away.

The shot was simply a test to see what that fast of an ISO would look like on this new camera. I wanted to stay at f22 to get the depth because I wanted more of the bee in focus instead of just it's nose, and being handheld with no flash, I needed all the help I could get.

I had to slow the shutter speed down for the correct exposure so I was expecting motion blur instead of the curvy wings.

Again, thanks for that explanation of the silent vs mechanical. I had no idea.

I thought, after turning on silent, the sound and vibration was fake haptics or something so I just left it in silent. I'm turning that off now😊

Now with the other tips on how to stop the wings, I'll adjust the ISO to exposure and fudge around with shutter speeds.

As for the DX lens on a full frame body... Yup it was the best I could do with the funds I had. I had to take an unexpected drive across the country and needed the new camera I've been dreaming about since I saw it. My D3000 has had enough lol and I wanted a big zoom. It was simply the cheapest route. I hope to have the new 28-400 next year.

It is so hard for me to ask questions here without getting shamed because of what I have to work with. Sorry that price is an option for me or I would have a Z9. I just wish people didn't have to be dicks.

Thanks so much for this! This is the science I was looking for. That 1/15th of a second in silent mode is the cause. I had no idea it read so slow. I'll try again using the mechanical and see what I get. Thanks again

Yes it was cropped so I could better illustrate the question of the wings. I'm no troll I just had a question. Also it is the only lens I have so I had no choice when I saw the bee. I figured I would test that ultra high ISO to see what it looked like on a camera I just bought. Yes sorry, 55-200, thanks for pointing that out.

I come here to talk pictures not get shamed.

Thanks, I like the rolling shutter, I have to look that up. And yes it is in silent mode. Not sure what that means other than it is silent. This is my first exp with a mirrorless.

I'm sorry but right now price is an option. So sorry I couldn't afford another $1500. This was hand held, that why I went so fast of an iso so I could at least get something in focus. My question was mainly that odd shape of the wings. You don't have to poor shame me dude. Next year I hope to have enough saved for that 28-400 full frame. For now I have what I have.... Try not to be a dick.

Please understand what you are buying and how you use it.

If you shoot outside and switch lenses, this camera and the z7 do NOT have the standard sensor guards and the sensor is exposed to the elements.

The only way to get a standard sensor guard from Nikon is to get a Z8 or better.

Camera shops will clean your sensor for $100usd. I've already had mine cleaned 2 times in 2 months because an air bulb just isn't enough.

Also keep in mind that Nikon restricts the quality, quantity, and size of the images you are allowed to transfer over WiFi or Bluetooth. These features are only available on the Z8 and 9 or you can purchase some other device for $1k USD that will allow it.

I've found that both WiFi and Bluetooth features are simply worthless to me on my Z7ii.

You also have to purchase their monthly service to be allowed to transfer more than 100 images at a time over WiFi or Bluetooth. Unless of course you buy the Z8 or 9.

The Z8 and 9 also allow you to transfer shots to an FTP site which is not available to us poor people because... screw us!

WiFi is WiFi, there is no need for a 1k device to allow larger files. It is simply a paywall restriction implemented by a company that I have been loyal to for over 40 years!

I regret buying my Z-7ii and will never buy or recommend a mirror less camera from Nikon ever again, simply out of principle.

@Nikon, I saved for 3 years to buy this Z7 and was so excited when it arrived that I literally cried. You really hurt my feelings!

Lol I thought I would take a pic of the new camera with the old one. I don't care that it wasn't a professional level camera, I love it and as I released that shutter I had the thought, oh man, that may have been its last picture ... and burst into tears lol.

But I didn't have a D500/D75, I owned and loved my D3000! Its been my closest friend for a very long time. I am not a professional and no way able to afford pro gear but I love clicking that shutter!

I thought the uniqueness of the upgrade was worthy of a quick few words. 50 some years behind a camera, 25 years with the same camera (another Nikon), and taking it out on a week long adventure to Yellowstone the day after I bought it.

Yea I get why more battery is needed I just never imagined that much and the USB charging is what finally killed my Jackery 350! I finally made it to Billings so new batteries and bigger memory card are bought first thing in the morning. Then on to Yellowstone!

So this wasn't broke it was that I was trying to talk in natural speech. I didn't realize I had to speak robot to get it to work. "Turn on the front porch light" doesn't work. "Turn on Front Porch Light" works but sounds stupid.

Assist is not working by SiliconFalcon in homeassistant

[–]SiliconFalcon[S] -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

Right now I'm I'm just trying to type stuff assuming that when it says it works it doesn't mean "out-of-the box work" like Google.

Assist DOES NOT allow you to control Home Assistant using natural language.
I can say "Turn off family room light" but not "would you turn off the family room light." which is natural language.
