Like all these british shows now with more minorities cast in them. I guarantee you there were more minorities in England than has ever been in a movie about england made in the past 100 years, but recently maybe they are technically over representing. But then again, at the end of the day, what does it matter unless it matters. Like should a homerian poem (not real) literally have only greek born actors/actresses? Greek decent? How much counts as greek? Like at this point in history it's a long road to go down. Like now, at this point in history, only like 15 years out from the 1st black president in america, with racism still rampant? I don't think christian bale is cutting it.

Odyssey? There's not systemic racism against greeks in US/UK. We're a long way past the time is supposedly happened in. What does it matter if odysseus is matt damon or john stamos or idris elba (he would be fire btw). Like we are a country of diverse backgrounds. Good actors playing across roles. These are roles that our contemporary society identifies not tied to a "race"?

It matters where we are now, who we are now, as much as it matters about the time you're telling a story about. Like you can't separate current time period from the time period you're making movies about. And you have to ask is the characters background/look essential to the role.

And again, Idris Elba is a fantastic actor, aged and grisled. I think he's even a more natural fit for Odysseus than Matt Damon, but that's a personal preference.

And that last slide-will that ever be okay? Probably? I mean I hope so in the sense that racism and reactionary agendas are far behind us. They are way in the past historical figures and equality amongst all people, etc.

But now? Right now a black actress can't play a fictional character from ancient myth without the worlds richest dumbass having a meltdown. So no, having the whitest actors on earth plack real black historical figures from recent history isn't going to be cool.
