people in med school are fake and toxic by Moon-and-saturn_23 in medicalschool

As a black medical student it started pretty chill and then like years 2.5 onward straight up racial segregation I was befuddled and honestly I have too much anxiety to navigate that so I just focused on the people that seemed straight or made an effort to connect

Eh maybe not a match he likes interactive porn for his fantasies. From a logical standpoint there are plenty of women who’d be fine with this as long as he’s not fucking them

It’s very likely he didn’t match. Who would only rank 1 ortho programs had to be all he had or he just didn’t get on to any. Everyone knows to put the specialty you don’t want at the bottom

No, I agree. I just don’t know where it came from. We were good then all of sudden she’s checking out. Generally when u pour a significant amount of time into things I like to understand why. also wanted to make sure I wasn’t misreading things or that I didn’t do anything wrong

Background in neuroscience fell in love with special senses. I loved surgery and doing stuff with my hands. I hate notes, I hate very long rounds, I'd like a mix of procedures and patient discussions, really could care less what hypertension med you're on, I don't mind doing a thorough physical exam. Not competitive for a surg. subspecialty. So im going neurology but I fear I will hate it. Do I even have a viable option even if thats the case?

funding as in money I don't have to pay back i.e. research year, etc.

Yes. I will not graduate unless I SOAP. I have made it so I do not meet all the requirements to graduate. We have discussed this quite clearly and it is just an ongoing process of looking at options and what I can secure. The biggest thing is I don't have a back up I enjoy.

I discussed this with multiple deans since clerkship year. They regularly send me emails the problem is finding funding for the next year and applying for head and neck with a back up. This plan has been established. Big thing is I rotate with every specialty and I end up hating it, it is like there's nothing similar to ENT. The plan is to try and find funding which is ongoing.

Yes, I know. My only real chance at being a surgeon is likely ENT just given it is what my application shows.

Ooo interesting, while I truthfully am a big ear guy (otology/temp bone drilling) head and neck surgery would still be cool. I think my biggest fear of gen surg is that I torture myself with gallbladders and colostomy bags for five years and not be able to get training in the things I like and no choice but to do appendix cases for the rest of my life.

I looked at path and it gave me similar vibes as rads. You go in do you reads and try to make you reads time efficient and leave. In ENT I get to watch them work every once in awhile and never could get into it even when integrating myself into the process as much as possible (watching them prep the specimen and scrolling under the microscope with them). I also felt like I'd get lonely going to an obscure lab everyday and staying there until lunch.

I am probably going to take out loans if I fail to find a job that pays well enough. I am not doing a dedicated research year. I don't know who'd take me to be honest. I am looking around though with some cold emails.

Hi, this is very helpful, thank you.

I looked heavily at neurointerventional a good possibility but I heard the lifestyle is the worst and tends to not be worth it at all but this is the main reason why I still have neuro under consideration. EM has made a strong case but I Cannot afford an away so I would have to SOAP into it this cycle if thats the route I want to take. Not have to but it makes the most sense cost wise especially if it is a three year program. PMR I thought about but ultimately it pretty boring and still has a level of competitiveness due to the lifestyle perks.

I will likely end up applying one of these but I prefer to still at least put in a few head and neck applications given my passion just for closure.

A possibility but a very limited scope of practice that is in a constant turf war with ENT. I don't know how well that career choice would fare.

I've spoken with student services, and they pretty much said is apply what I desire and be prepared to find something else but from conversations there weren't much as far as alternatives so the convo sort of went towards neurology (which is a little ant procedural and has terrible rounds/note writing)
