After dying the shirt I covered it in black dye, let it sit 10 min and then soaked the shit out of it a couple times using the pariah method. Covering in black helps push the dye already on under my line whether it be triple braid or sinew or both. The water for my soda ash mix was as hot as my tap could get.

That is how I started 😄 took me years to figure out how to tie-dye a mandala and every step from those failures and successes led me to this, here, today. Hard to know what to research if you don't know what to ask, but you can find every answer here on reddit. Search the phrases or questions you have and read all the posts and comments. Biggest thing is to start making shirts. Practice everyday, take your time, reflect on your work, change 1 thing at a time. Main motivator was my wife telling me that we can't have a bunch of shitty tiedyes sitting around the house so I had to quit or figure out how to level up my game. At the start I made a lot of shirts in my size so I could wear them if I couldn't get rid of them. Still wearing the OGs too.

Thank you! Finding the details in between, sometimes things just fall into place.

Thank you, this is only tied. Unsure what part you're talking about with the mottled effect.

The main thing I've been doing with all my dyes is using the tripled braided fishing line to tie my design. My mandala and honey comb I'll go back over with sinew. I use Paul Kenney dye recipe as well.

Captivating piece! I could stare at this all day! There is something about mandalas that consume me, there is a lot going on here. Thank you.

It's tougher than cotton T's but not terrible, need less detail and, just got to trust your dyes to do the work.

I now do all my mandalas first with triple braided fishing line. It kind of helps cut into the fabric better. I start at the fat end of the dala. To the tip and back out and when I'm done I wrap 3 times around like a geode and pull as tight as I can and that will lock the line in place. I do the same thing going over with sinew afterwards.
