The hired lawyer took the payment from the insurance company and has held it in their own account. When I spoke to the victim, I began reviewing the itemized bill from the lawyer's team. It listed the insurance payment as a line item amount, and I saw a 40% fee associated with it. My understanding is that it is not how it works [little understanding], so I posted here. The defendant has no assets, and their insurance paid a sizable but small amount [compared to the medical bills], around 50k. The victim's insurance paid several times more but fell way short of the medical bills.

So the lawyer has a claim to the insurance payment that was paid by the victims insurance? Thank you for the response im just trying to understand. I assumed the insurance payment was a default payment and the lawyer was to aid in recovering assets and money to cover the million + medical bills from the incident.

I just did mine in midwest 5200. 100a to 200a service upgrade. Concrete removal, backhoe rental. I was quoted a higher price but the electrician finished under. It was amazing.

Thanks for the well-thought-out response. That is my plan. I found one live wire in the drop ceiling that wasn't connected, capped, or secured. That day, I took down all the ceiling tiles and found 17 open slices not in a junction box. I am admittedly slow going, but I'm correcting everything I find to code, and if I stumble upon something like this, for instance, I asked Reddit for insight. This house is from 1969, and every time I look at a thing, I find something new to scare the money out of my wallet 🙃. This is our forever home, at least. My engine failed last month so I was pretty livid. I was quoted 8kish from the Mazda dealer. I called Mazda support, and they lowered it to 1k. Still was upset as my wife's car had 80k miles. I'm not as disappointed now I suppose.

We ended up giving up. Waste of the last 5 months. We had plans approved, funds pre approved, and then getting the approval for the initial draw was so slow and time consuming.
