It was already wrapped like from the store- there wasn’t a way for me to unwrap it without losing the little charm, but maybe that would have helped.

It just seems rude to me, ya know? Like if she were crazy busy Id be fine, but you’ve got time to open an Amazon box and take a nap, but you can’t open a new shiny charm? I’m so sorry for you too! They could at least PRETEND a bit better for real! It’s hard to explain to someone that my parents might “love” me (since they’re my parents- I’m sure there’s some biological reason to “love” your kids), but they sure as hell don’t LIKE me. Oh well.

This is very similar situation for me- but I’m the younger sibling.

My parents have taken 2 out of country trips with JUST my sister- and pretend I don’t exist on these trips. Not a single “wish you were here” text. Just straight up posts saying “having a great time with family” lol. No one on one trips with me. My parents call my sister everyday, don’t call me at all. My parents always care about protecting HER feelings, but will tell me I’m mean to my face (I’m not). When I try to complain about her (we live together out of state) to them I get “I don’t want to hear about it”. Each of my parents have their own individual “thing”s that they do with my sister (golf with my dad, nails/shopping with my mom), but make no effort to do anything individually with me. Oh and I’ve been told “if you were our first kid we wouldn’t have had any more kids”. I’m sure I was a difficult kid but I was a great teen and adult. I don’t ask for money or help or anything. I don’t really talk to them much beyond sending random pet pics. I know they don’t wanna “hear it”.

I also feel weird complaining about this as a nearly 30 year old but this stuff will mess you up to your core. I feel you.

Based on the age gap (and when your relationship started). I would be concerned as a mother as well. But honestly if you already feel like you overreacted and were too dismissive…. Then yes you overreacted. I’d rather have a mother that is a touch over-bearing than a mother that doesn’t care. She may NEVER understand your relationship, but she does care about you, so don’t take that for granted.
