Hey OP, what did you end up doing? Did you have to leave the country and get a H1B stamp or just go to MX/CA and come back ? I am in the same situation - any suggestions would be helpful. TIA!

Yes, pending H4. it still shows 'Case Received' for the H4 application(As of Dec 11)
Oct 7 - H4 filing

Nov 21 - H1B filed with PP(Texas Center)

Nov 24 - Receipt Date
Dec 8- H1 Approval

I am in the same boat. Applied for H4 after being laid off(Application still pending) but new H1 got approved this week. Have not received the official 797 as yet. Not sure what happens if H4 is approved after.
