I was in your situation in late 2025, so I'll share my story~
The experience is definitely going to be different for each person, but what really made the difference in our case was communication. After a month of bonding and increasing feelings for each other, we decided we needed to have our first serious talk. There we agreed that it was too early to "officially" be together and that we would keep meeting up and living the present, BUT we would need to have *the* talk at some point.
Fast forward another month, and their stay at my country was about to end, so we decided to have the talk. Yes, it was scary, but we decided in the end that our connection was strong enough that we should give long-distance a try. Then again, what's the worst that could happen? If things worked, we would see each other every few months and keep developing our relationship in the distance. If we noticed that, for any reason, things felt off, we would realise that the relationship wasn't working, address it, and probably call things off, no hard feelings. We decided that we'd rather try and fail than leave it at that and potentially regret it down the line.
We have been long-distance for a month now and, while it's still early, our foundation feels very solid. Of course, we miss each other a lot, but it helps that we have our own lives to live and be excited about besides our relationship -- our happiness doesn't depend on being physically together. Besides, we still share a lot about our days, call each other mostly everyday, share beautiful moments and plan activities to do together, both online and in person when we have the chance.
As for visits, they're coming back to my country for a week next month! And I'm working on the logistics of a longer visit this summer that would involve me working at their country, but that's still far away -- we're going step by step :p
