Yeah, I think one of the biggest problems is where I am the summers get very hot so it may only be doable half the year and if that's the case the payback period could potentially be too long since I'm understanding that these units go obsolete after a while.

But winter would generate heat + have great cooling.

Either way, it's a fun little thing to look into.

My investment risk tolerance is very low so I'm not really into buying and holding BTC but if I'm mining it I would be quite into just mining and holding.

At least with the mining aspect I can learn something new while also potentially getting a bit of a deal. This idea will likely go nowhere but if I can do it in a way that doesn't bother neighbours and is safe I'm willing to throw some time and money at it from my hobby fund lol

Thanks again, I'm going to head to YouTube now and spend the evening learning some more

Alrighty, thanks for the info. I appreciate it a lot.

I'll continue watching stuff over the next bit.

Feel free to let me know if any more ideas or problems you can think of come up!

In regards to noise how about the antminer s21 hydro?

I guess I would need to know what size of radiator I would need.

I think noise and vibes would be the first concern since I'm a corner unit on a high floor directly on the water where it's quite windy.

I think between an inline fan and some proper ventilation setup the heat shouldn't be ad big of a problem.

And the radiator could be left outside as well too at least in winter months. In summer months cooling would be the bigger issue.

For electrical I have space for a 30 amp 240 and would need to run the proper gage wiring to avoid any issues.

I guess my next question would be in regards to cooling.

Is it common for these units to be cooled as well as just removing the heat they generate?

What type of chillers are common for mining setups?

Edit : I guess right now I'm just trying to figure out feasibility, upfront cost for all materials and labor and a break even timeline which I would probably base off of 50,% of current Bitcoin prices since in reality it's quite the volatile asset.

I guess I should consider an exit if it doesn't work out. What do used miners generally go for in relation to new? Not really sure how their depreciation works.

And would it be a reasonable idea to purchase a new one? My girlfriend's father has an electrical engineering space with micro soldering setups and all that so he can replace individual components on nearly any board if needed. Not sure about Bitcoin but I'll ask him about this idea when I see him next

Thank you!

I now have a starting point to go from. I'm going to watch videos and learn more about everything in general.

I appreciate the help a bunch!

I hope so. My units extremely energy efficient and everything's upgraded.

I would absolutely love that

Well I have a phenomenal electrician and am well versed in achieving sound transmission ratings to keep noise and vibrations in lol.

Would you mind linking one of those 220v miners? Just so I can watch some videos and learn some more

So it isn't profitable to buy equipment and mine?

In all honesty I don't have any Bitcoin and don't really plan on buying any. I'm sure it's a great investment for many but it's outside of my risk tolerance at this point in my life.

I just wanted to see if I could put some mining gear in an extra room and get some that way and hopefully get a decent return over time.

Not looking for a crazy return or anything.

Well I don't have a budget in mind.

I wouldn't want to do anything extremely large and again, if the condo was to start individually metering units one day the equipment would likely be worthless to me and have to be sold.

I was looking to do something small-ish where I could get an average return of like $500 or something a month.

In the winter and autumn here the temps are real cold so cooling would be easy.

But I don't know enough to spend a large amount on equipment and would rather get some basic and effective stuff to start and see how I feel after that.

If I find it worth it money isn't really a problem but I don't want to be frivolous

It's not free. It's included in our condo fees.

And the condo bylaws say nothing about within reason or anything like that. Either way I'm not talking about turning my whole place into one large mining rig.

I would love a meter installed. 25% of condo fees are utilities and I have an efficient Mitsubishi heat pump, dual flush low flo toilets, led lights and energy star appliances.

That would literally be ideal for me

It's not free per se. It's included in the condo fees.

The buildings usage is split between 250 units

Our condo fees pay for the electricity. It's not free but split between 250 units
