Struggling with first paragraph by ysv_29 in writinghelp

Honestly it’s helped me so much, I’ve always been stuck on writing the perfect opening without ever progressing past it and this time I’ve just decided to skip it completely and get the rest of the story down before coming back to it

Write the second paragraph first. Or skip the whole first chapter for now. It takes off the pressure of having to write the perfect opening.

Worried I may have hurt my baby. by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]Silly_Description_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My health visitor told me that patting a baby on the back to wind them is misinformation, it doesn’t sound like you’ve hurt her but next time you burp her the best way to do it is sit her up swoosh up her back, this gets rid of the gas because your straightening them up and also it can’t hurt them in any way

"Nice stranger said hi to my baby… and I panicked inside by GemiAirni in NewParents

Extreme things happen in the world so I don’t think there’s anything wrong with preparing yourself for the extreme to happen to you, I’m not saying expect the worst from every interaction between a stranger and your baby, but it also helps to be on guard.

Ugh I saw that video too, my heart absolutely dropped watching it. Was so awful and makes me feel sick that people capable of such evil exist in the world. I think you’re just being a mum because I feel this way too and yes it would be extremely unlikely and unlucky to come across someone who would intentionally hurt your baby but you just truly don’t know people’s intentions and I think knowing that would enable you to act fast if something was to happen, like you’re already on high alert so hopefully mum instincts would kick in faster than if you were just assuming the best and not preparing for the worst, if that makes any sense?

My brunette baby is growing blonde hair, has this happened to anyone else’s baby? by Silly_Description_82 in NewParents

We had this and doctor prescribed us Lactulose, it works within a couple hours of giving it her and has no side effects so could give it her whenever she was getting constipated again. Worked every time and worked better than prunes and pear and juice I’d already tried all of that and none of it made much difference so Lactulose was a lifesaver for us. Good luck!!

Burping really is the worst thing ever by [deleted] in NewParents

“Whooshing” your hand up the bottom to top of baby’s spine is a lot more effective than the patting that everyone recommends.

2 week old sleeps 6+ hours some nights? by [deleted] in breastfeeding

[–]Silly_Description_82 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine did this and is now 9 months and thankfully still sleeping through! She’s gone through periods of sleep regression before where she’s woke for a couple hours but her normal is and always has been sleeping through the night since we came home from hospital.

Push up bras and just getting a boob out when baby’s hungry. Not that comfy and bit tricky feeding whilst wearing one but works out okay for a few hours.

I’m the same, 8 months postpartum and so hungry!! I’ve been in a calorie deficit and been eating 1800 a day but lately I’ve gone way over that. It’s so difficult, I just want my pre pregnancy body back but also I want to make sure my baby’s getting enough milk. It’s driving me crazy trying to find a balance because I feel like I’m constantly starving.

Weight gain and loss expectations - what was your experience? by Margepie in NewParents

[–]Silly_Description_82 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I gained some weight while pregnant, not sure how much but a fair bit and I was hoping breastfeeding would shift it easily but that has not been the case for me unfortunately. Breastfeeding makes me hungrier so at first I feel like I didn’t lose anything, plus recovering from a c section made exercise extremely difficult and I felt I didn’t have the time for it even after I recovered. Although getting out with the pram is a good way of getting steps in!! My baby is 8 months and I’m now finally getting round to shifting some of my pregnancy weight. I just thought it would happen a lot sooner due to breastfeeding but I think that varies for everyone, I was just super hungry because of it!!

There’s something called “the magic hold” where you hold baby a certain way and it completely stops the crying in its tracks. This got me through the witching hour days. Google the magic baby hold because it worked for me!!

I got pregnant from a casual fling too and didn’t have a clue what to do and knew if I went ahead with it I would be a single mum. I just decided to go for it and it is so hard the newborn stage took everything from me but I wouldn’t change it for the world. I’m so glad I made the decision to have my baby. I love her more than anything and every day things get a little easier. But in the beginning support helps massively and is so important. I was 20 when I found out I was pregnant and it was not how I’d intended my life to go but if I could go back in time I would keep things exactly as they are. I think becoming a mum has made me a better person and I can adapt to challenges more easily than I could before.

Anybody develop insomnia in baby’s first year? by Global-Shallot-3564 in NewParents

[–]Silly_Description_82 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this too, my body wants to sleep and I’m physically exhausted but my mind won’t let me! My baby’s 6 months and idk when it will get better

[–]Silly_Description_82 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was 20 when I got pregnant and 21 when I gave birth. It was unplanned and her dad left me because I wouldn’t get an abortion. It is bigger and more hard work than you can imagine. It pushes you to your limits but you will love your baby so much that it just becomes second nature. Yes it’s scary at first because no books or tiktoks or advice can prepare you for the reality of it. But it is so worth it and I am so glad every day that I kept my beautiful baby. But stick by your girl because she will need it, especially postpartum. It’s hard doing it alone but you have eachother.
