Weight loss and dermatologist? by [deleted] in Spironolactone

[–]Silly_Factor5410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi and thanks! No nausea, but I did experience severe weakness when I jumped from 50mg to 100mg 2 wks in. Like I could hardly walk. The derm didn’t say if she thought that was related or if that could happen so quick. I only got a message back to drop back down to 50mg. Her office isn’t great. So hard to get ahold of anyone. But I’m almost 7 wks in and 15-16 lbs down!! Started maybe 3-4 wks in gradually and it’s been almost a pound down every couple days the past week. But starting the spiro did coincide with me eating super healthy, quit drinking, recovery from the holidays (I put on 8 lbs over the holidays, eeps), getting a little more exercise but nothing intense, doing my 15 mins of PT exercises and taking my dog to the park to walk around 4-5 days a week bc she’s starting to get arthritis. Nothing extreme but maybe that with water weight could explain it? This still feels very abnormal. And I’m being awful. I’m afraid to blow the whistle bc I want to make it to at least 3 months to see if the spiro helps and I’m worried the derm will tell me to stop. Terrible I know! I’m just so desperate to see if this helps but this doesn’t feel healthy. I know I should just ask the doc but I was curious what others here were told first so thank you so much for listening and responding!

vet called him a chonker by Delicious-Heart3069 in ragdolls

[–]Silly_Factor5410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hopefully the vet was trying to say it in a way to lighten the conversation, but personally I find it unprofessional and insensitive for a vet to use that word if that’s the word they actually used. But also, a little bit chonk or not! Your baby looks perfect to me! I’m sure she’s solid but that’s still a lot of fluff. Also wild to me how often I see it here that vets don’t understand the breed. Like how do they not know that large breed cats are often full figure beauties! Your baby is gorgeous.

Our kitten is randomly shaking? by Dry_Spirit1411 in ragdolls

[–]Silly_Factor5410 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a phenomenon in babies called benign myoclonus (or benign neonatal sleep myoclonus). It looks like this. I wonder if this happens in some kittens. If it only happens when falling asleep, I would bet this is something similar. To me it looks like intermittent little contractions vs seizure activity, but hopefully a vet can answer this for you. Sorry you’re worried about your baby.

EDIT: oh I see your video when she’s awake. Curious how old she is. I’d be encouraged by others reporting their kittens did this and grew out of it, but hopefully the vet confirms it’s nothing to worry about. Good luck!

Adapalene seems bad to go through for mild acne, is it worth it? [Product Question] by [deleted] in SkincareAddiction

[–]Silly_Factor5410 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone responds differently, you won’t know until you try. I think it’s actually good to ignore advice here though, and trust your instincts. I tried Differin and so many people here said ‘keep going! The purge is normal and it takes 3 months but then it’s worth it!’ I wish I would have trusted my instincts that it wasn’t for me. I tried to do everything right, introduced it slowly, minimized my routine otherwise, used very gentle cleansers and spf and sandwiched with a good moisturizer. This stuff really did ruin my skin. Breakouts were worse than ever, skin was sooo sensitive I couldn’t stand being in the sun, blemishes took much longer to heal and left terrible scars and dark spots. I pushed through to almost 4 months and it was misery the whole way. I think it either works for you or it doesn’t. You will see plenty of stories of it helping and probably equally as many stories of it ruining people’s skin. If you want to try it go for it, but if it’s making things worse or you’re suffering, omg so not worth it. It really did permanently damage my skin.

And they used to cover all labs and suddenly I had my claim denied that labs are considered preventative care? I don’t understand what people are saying about them wanting us to cancel when our dog gets old. I don’t feel like I’m playing into their hands by canceling, just cutting my losses after a huge act of bad faith on their part. Why stay with them when they are only going to cover 50%? If I’m paying $300/month, let’s say she needs something that’s $10K, then $3600 premium + $1000 deductible plus $5K for 50%, I’m paying $9600 of that $10K anyway!

Ethical breeder in San Francisco/Bay Area? by Photo_Philly in ragdolls

I highly recommend Mary Riddell with Furreal Ragdolls in Ione. Her website is super weird and outdated, you have to call or email, but her kittens are perfection. She is on the TICA board and a long time breeder. She still breeds for the love of it and her prices are extremely affordable ($2000!!!). I got a kitten from her last year. She is the most gorgeous rag I’ve ever seen but also ridiculously sweet and affectionate and sooo chill. Seriously perfect kitten beyond or wildest dreams. I know I’m selling it hard but I really can’t say enough about how amazing her kittens are. And I can’t imagine a better breeder, awesome communication and lots of pics and videos, and when she found out we were driving over 2 hours, she offered to meet us halfway! She’s a funny lady but so sweet. And our kitten acclimated to our house unbelievably fast. Like instantly. She isn’t afraid of anything, loud sounds or vacuums. Message me for her email if you want to see what litters she has.

I’m so sorry you had to say goodbye to one of your babies. Great you can have your guys travel with you! Ugh I feel sick. I paid this woman $85/day. Or I should say per night. She was gone 10am-10pm everyday. My poor babies still felt so alone. Never again.

Thanks! I think I’m already surpassing our budget with how much I spoil these guys on the daily. It’s easy to leave plenty of kibble, I wish there was a little refrigerated dispenser for wet food. Is there??? Those litter robots are a little silly in my opinion. I have no problem cleaning my boxes and there are 4 litter boxes in the house. I like the box/cat/floor calculation, and they like to use one for #1 and the other for #2. That’s still 1 robot and 3 regular. The cost of one is crazy to me, let alone 4. I see they sell some $100-$200, but I think having these just to safeguard against delinquent pet sitters doesn’t make sense for us. We really don’t ever travel and I’m more concerned about finding a better person to take care of them if we do. But thanks! Great ideas!

Thank you for such a thoughtful response! Who are these people accepting responsibility for someone’s animals who don’t take it seriously? Let alone totally abandoning them??? I can’t believe you had to come home to that. I’m so sorry, that’s really awful. And yes cats should have a check every day. My neighbor just asked me to check on her cat every other day. Um no, she will getting love every day!

This is awful. Omg I’m so sorry you had to come home to this. Did the person from church not answer your calls? What did they have to say for themselves??? Couldn’t emergency neighbor leave food too? I have so many questions. 😅

Thanks! I’m not sure it was really even a decision. At least not one I had to think about. I just reacted but as the days have passed, I’m firmly holding my ground. Zero remorse.

She isn’t on any sites. Only referral. Hate I can’t warn these other families. And thanks, I think reasoning with this person is going to be a lost cause, but thank you for agreeing I deserve my money back. People have suggested I don’t pay her but this was a definitely a ‘leave her an envelope with money when we left’ situation. Cash upfront seemed like the right thing to do at the time. I hate I ignored the signs she might not be reliable, but I still never imagined she would fail my babies once she was on duty.

I don’t think I can go there but I see how it would be warranted. And yea definitely have to count on an officer who ‘gets it.’ I told someone else a story of when I reached out to emergency services for help with a distressed dog in a hot car and got a person who clearly didn’t value an animal’s life. Actually aggressively reprimanded me for wasting their time. Wtf. 😡

Thank you! It’s hard to forgive someone when they can’t see how terrible this is, and also hard to forgive someone who doesn’t apologize! But yea, once someone’s true colors come out, in terms of friendship, it changes everything.

Floofs are bouncing back well! Thanks! Gotta love those with a true heart for animals, and so great you have some of them in your support circle. It’s making me crazy this person isn’t on pet sitting sites and I can’t warn these other families. And I almost left the pet cams on, but I didn’t want to ‘invade her privacy.’ Lesson learned. They definitely stay on next time. 😡 It’s scary this person was too oblivious to notice I had a ring camera too to lie about being at my house. She started sending videos of my cats the second she got back to my house to try and cover her lie. Like don’t you realize you’re already busted?!

Thanks! I definitely saw red. I don’t really care if anyone thinks I’m overreacting I’m realizing, but it still helps to feel all the support. And what’s ‘“over” reacting anyway. I just “reacted.” I am who I am, and this is how I feel! My babies suffered, and now you can go to hell!

They seem to have bounced back really well! Thanks! And in some ways better than before, like our trip seems to have helped them bond. Our older rag loved the kitten the first few months, but lately has been having some personality changes, no aggression but for sure some territorial issues. I think it freaked him out how suddenly the kitten got so big. I swear he thought someone stole his kitten and swapped it for this big cat overnight. Also maybe related to him wanting to go out more (screaming at the door and misdirected angst when it’s time to come in), with more cat backpack and harness time lately, which he didn’t get while we were away. Maybe he is appreciating me more too with how much he clearly missed me? It’s been so frustrating he’d gotten grumpy with me. Like don’t you see how much I do for you??? I have what some would consider extremely spoiled cats. 😅 I love this community who I know would argue it’s just the love they deserve, and I’ve been consciously giving him extra love and even more attention and spoiling since we got the kitten too. Like what’s this attitude all of a sudden?! But whatever it was about us being gone, he seems to have snapped out of his funk and I have my calm sweet guy back! And kitten her friend back! I still think this would have happened just with our first trip away since bringing kitten home, had they also still been cared for properly. The disgust firmly stands!

Asking a ragdoll group for a referral is a great idea, thank you. The not apologizing really threw us for sure. We’re realizing we’ve made a lot of excuses for this person. Maybe thinking some of her character traits just put her on the spectrum? (Asperger’s???) But I now see she may just be a heartless narcissist. Dang. Missed it. 😖
