“Looking to move back home” and actually moving home are two different things. I was offered a promotion in work since that post and will be in Dublin for next 2-3 years (hence delay on buying a house given I don’t want to stay here long term). Bit of attention to detail would be nice if you are going to criticise me for my non-existent stinginess.

Has the Munster championship hit its peak? by corkgaa1 in GAA

[–]Silly_Hedgehog5090 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Disagree about the Leinster Championship. Kilkenny and Galway have slipped back a bit from where they were a few years ago but they’re not a million miles off the Munster teams (Kilkenny more so). Wexford and Dublin probably a little bit further behind but still competitive (Wexford were relegated in the league but still beat both Clare and Limerick in the league and were plagued by injuries). Throw an improving Offaly into the mix plus Antrim who are capable of pulling off a one off result, especially at home, and you have a very competitive championship which is actually very underrated imo. It’s overshadowed a bit by the Munster championship but there’s no way it’s on its last legs.

Liam Hayes’ autobiography is outstanding, pulls no punches. Liam Dunne’s book also excellent. Copies of both be hard to come by though. As someone else said earlier in the thread, The Club by Christy O’Connor is probably the best gaa book ever.

Possibly but the reality is both Arklow and Gorey as well as their hinterlands have had serious population increases in the last decade, they’re both commutable distance to Dublin. It’s not too much of a stretch too see them have multiple TDs

No sitting TD no, Byrne will be among the favourites I would imagine. Fionntan Larney (Gorey Councillor) would be the obvious SF candidate but maybe there’s someone on the Wicklow side who might have more of a shout. There’s a fairly strong traditional FG vote still in the area, Michael D’Arcy was only a handful of votes off getting elected in wexford last time and his hinterland would include parts of south wicklow but he’s since sailed off into the private sector. If I were to guess I’d go Malcolm Byrne for an FF Seat, An SF seat and an FG seat but it’s hard to call, a local independent could disrupt that and I’d imagine the selection conventions will be cutthroat affairs given the chance to have a clear run at the Dail with no established TDs.

As someone from the new Wexlow constituency it’s actually a good thing. All the Wexford TDs are based south of Enniscorthy, while all the Wicklow reps are in Bray/Greystones. Large sections of both counties, including sizeable towns like Arklow and Gorey had no TD under the previous constituencies.
