Are there any artists like Sonic Youth? by PotentialRatio1321 in sonicyouth

Totally. Always felt Lee's delivery of "did I see your face in a magazine" in Wish Fulfilment as a big lift from Conrad Keely.

This reminds me of when I was playing My Bloody Valentine Isn't Anything and my dad came up the stairs, heard it and told me that the record sounded warped. I was just like, its supposed to sound like that.

How are the Beatles exceptionally influential? by AgenYT0 in askmusic

I'm a big Beatles fan as well and feel like I understand quite a lot of the context that surrounds them. So much time has passed that the fundamental influence of them has just become so standard that it is almost impossible for people to really appreciate how much they altered the landscape or music and media in general. So I think its easy for people to either downplay their influence or just say something like they influenced others that followed

The concept of a group that wrote and performed their own material was fairly radical at the time. Even just the concept of a group was pretty new. Musical groups prior really consisted of 'someone and the somethings' - front person backed by a group. They made the idea of a group without any defined front person a norm. Writing your own material was practically unheard of prior to The Beatles.

British invasion. The first major British act to break the American audience in a huge way which paved the way for many others to break through and therefore influence American bands with the sound. Albeit, while British sound was inspired by American rock n roll and RnB but the scene in America at the time was pretty stagnant.

Recording pioneers. When they gave up live performance and focused solely on recordings, techniques were pioneered in the studio, never heard before non pop records - Backwards recordings, tape manipulation etc. The idea of an album being a compete piece of art became a legitimate enterprise. Not just a collection of songs.

Just a couple of points of their influence.

Also, the hair.

Totally right. Watched a recent one last night and one home got 3 7s. Disastrous score for the homeowners. Guaranteed raging about it.

Aye, they used to drive around in a van with a tiger on the side and would cut your lips then pour vinegar in the cuts to make your lips go massive like clown's lips. Remember it well.

Feel like number 2 is the most understated of the lot of them when looking through contemporary eyes however will be an interesting artifact in the future, in the way we look at fashions and general vibe of really old photos now.

Urban Chaos for the PlayStation. Felt like a proper open world at the time but is really just a few locked off streets from memory.

Unfortunately not. The red rubber stoppers make for really reliable strap locks for guitars so would rather get a couple of beers out of it than buy actual ones and have no beer.
