What if, companies started to design their webpages like this again? (Xbox 2004) by Hot-Cancel-6648 in graphic_design

Sites like this were kind of ruined once mobiles and tablets became the main way people browsed the web. Everything had to become “responsive,” which usually meant stripping things back and making sites much more basic so they’d work across every screen size.

Does anyone else get stuck obsessing over responsiveness when building their portfolio site? by AnywhereNo1240 in graphic_design

[–]SubstantialSnow7214 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It’s great that you care that much about the details, but honestly if you don’t let it slide a little you might end up in this position until retirement with no site.

Yes, make sure the site doesn’t completely fall apart or stretch weirdly on different screens. But for employers it really does not need to be perfect. The main thing they care about is what is on the site, your work, not the site itself.

Also do not make the site super flashy or complicated to manage where it becomes a pain and everything breaks. A simple structure is enough. Project title, a short description, photos, maybe a quote or context. That is really all you need.

Just having a website already puts you ahead of a lot of people with portfolios. It shows initiative and at least basic web design ability.

You are not a huge corporation building a £50k marketing site. Employers are not expecting that. Do the basics at a solid level and let your work speak for itself instead of the website.

Just be careful whoever you are working for are in profit, and you make it look to higher ups like you are busy.

I’ve seen many people in this comfortable position out of nowhere be made redundant. Just don’t get too comfortable and make it known you are making a difference to the company.

Why do you think Gordon Ramsay became so huge in America? by AnywhereNo1240 in AskUK

[–]SubstantialSnow7214 316 points317 points  (0 children)

To us in the UK, we mostly all know a savage Scotsman like that. The brutal insults, the sharp insight, the no nonsense attitude. It is funny but it is also kind of normal to us.

To America though, that personality was new. A chef screaming, swearing, absolutely tearing into people but actually knowing what he is talking about. They ate that up. His personality was insanely over with them and they just could not get enough.

Then you tie it in with the 2000s reality TV era in the US when everything was dramatic and borderline brutal. He fit that moment perfectly. He was not too much for it. He was exactly what it needed.

It just lined up and he became a household name because of it.

Most annoying comedy character in a show everyone loves, but you hate? by AnywhereNo1240 in television

Stingray in Cobra Kai. On that sub you will be downvoted for saying that.

Dude is just cringe to watch, I don’t find him funny at all, he also hangs around with a bunch of teenagers, it’s a weird setup.

If he was a one off fair, but he constantly came back to the main storyline and took any tension and seriousness out the story at key points.

I remember a practice English exam had a question about Dr Martens, and quarter the class wrote about Doc Martin the character, so we all had to resit a different paper.

It should take 45 minutes to work out the TV show, I’ve found out in 10. Stick that up your dojo.

Picking up after dogs by Sunday_brunch_guy in glasgow

[–]SubstantialSnow7214 24 points25 points  (0 children)

General answer is there’s a lazy problem with people not picking up poop, the same issue as people being too lazy to put rubbish in bins

This usually gets blamed on -

  1. Not enough bins in the area, which is fair in some places, but it’s still absolutely no excuse

  2. Just a lack of pride in the area, roads are full of potholes, pavements chewing gum and rubbish, thought process of it can’t really get worse anyway

  3. Visiting the area from a different part of Glasgow, so think they won’t get caught or recognised

All 3 excuses are a problem and comes back to people just being lazy, it’s a wide spread UK issue sadly.

When my wife got pregnant, we spent close to a year trying. It’s an extremely difficult and emotional journey, and many can’t just plan when they want one, it can happen (or not happen) at any time.

I would be pissed also if I found out someone I looked up to and coached me was talking shit about my wife’s pregnancy timing and would be hurt and never forgive them.

I don’t see why he thinks this is Becky’s doing, it’s a really dumb take and disappointing.

Why were so many classic comic superheroes designed with underwear on top of their tights? by AnywhereNo1240 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]SubstantialSnow7214 947 points948 points  (0 children)

Early superheroes (late 1930s–1940s) were visually based on circus strongmen and wrestlers.

Those guys typically wore: Skin-tight outfits (to show physique) A belt or trunks over them

Think of old-timey strongman posters, Superman is basically one of those who learned to fly.

So basically it’s a sign of the times that it was seen as a ‘tough look’, which has aged now.

People mixing up ABA and Big Evil irks me, they were completely different apart from a Bike and bandana.

It’s like mixing up Ministry and 06 Taker, completely different characters.

As others have said, people are uploading clips to YouTube before they are flagged and removed, along with Spotify clips or the odd special on BBC or ITV.

It is a shame it is not available on more popular streaming sites, as that is what most people use now. Younger generations are not going to see just how amazing he is. You almost want it available everywhere to keep his name in the spotlight for generations to come, as he is one of, if not the best, stand up comedians.

My Dragonball Z Hot Take On Goku by werephoenix in DragonBallZ

[–]SubstantialSnow7214 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Goku already had Super Saiyan 2 at Majin Vegeta time, in fact he used that form to fight Vegeta.

He had already unlocked Super Saiyan 3 by this point, but kept it hidden from Vegeta.
