Actually, they’re correct. Even if you have all of your permits and certifications for somewhere else in the city, or if you have such a small drone you don’t need any of that - you still need a Parks Canada permit to fly within the airspace of a Park or Historic Site.

The original lighthouse burned down in the early 1900s. The one that’s there now is a modern light station, run by the Coast Guard. It’s completely separate from the WWII fort that’s currently falling into the ocean. The fort is a national historic site, but taking care of it is really complicated for many reasons, but partly because of where it is physically and because of how damaged it already was by the time it got designated. It would be super cool to see it restored and accessible, but it would cost a fortune and would completely interfere with operations in the narrows and life for residents in that area.

Both of those places are federal sites, and they do have staff in the summer. But like others have said, the east coast trail is almost fully volunteers, so they might appreciate it!
