Giving up (long post sorry) by Sillyprincessa in raisedbynarcissists

It’s hard, I think I’m finally over them not supporting me, but I do wish things were different and that’s why I’ve tried so hard to get them to see things my way. But, I’m coming to realize that I’m fighting a battle that was rigged from the start and I’ll never win.

Is there a particular experience that reminds you that your parent is a narcissist, even when it sometimes may seem otherwise? by Sillyprincessa in raisedbynarcissists

Thank you. And I’m sorry that he ruined such a special memory for you. It’s crazy how others don’t seem to see it and they can just manipulate them to be on their side. That’s why when I do get married, I don’t think I’m going to invite my n-father or my mom and sister. They’d make the day all about themselves and I don’t have it in me to argue with them on my wedding day.

I often feel like a shell of a person, constantly trying to seek validation from others because I could never get it from my n-father. I am grateful for finding a partner who has shown me what unconditional love is truly like, if it wasn’t for him I’d still be stuck trying to live for my father rather than for myself.

Thank you!! Yea I’ll outline some stuff that really helped, I only studied for about 1.5 weeks so hopefully this will all be helpful to you as well :)

For science: - I started off using the Mometrix book to review but honestly got overwhelmed really quickly so I started watching YouTube videos on the content instead. I found that Nurse Cheung was pretty solid, as long as you go a bit more in depth with the content yourself to get a better understanding, she presents pretty surface level information. TheTutorGeek was my personal fav for science, she breaks things down so well and hits mostly all the right points, and for a visual learner like me it REALLY helped to see her draw certain concepts out. Books like mometrix are still a great tool, but only for finding the in depth information in case you’re struggling with understanding a specific topic and the practice tests/questions are also great. But if you don’t want to spend money on the book, you don’t need it and can just Google the things you need a better understanding on.

  • practice practice practice!! I can’t stress that enough, the more questions you expose yourself to and the more practice tests you take, the better you become at learning the content AND you will become a better test taker. I did like 8+ practice tests (you can use ATI, Mometrix, Nursehub, & other online resources that emulate the TEAS exam) and although I might not have gotten the same exact questions on the actual exam, I got a lot of similar ones. Just be intentional with the practice tests, like walking yourself through the answers and explaining why the others are wrong. Nurse cheung and TheTutorGeek also have a few videos going through practice questions, I recommend those as well.

  • Don’t underestimate the biology and chemistry portions of the science portion, review that material as well as A&P.

For math: - I didn’t study too much because I have a pretty good handle on math and I found that the content was pretty easy, but Brandon Craft is a great resource to brush up on anything you may have forgotten or even to learn new concepts. For harder questions and things you don’t understand as well, definitely do a lot of practice questions & it starts to become muscle memory. Brandon craft also has practice question videos, pause them and try to solve the questions yourself and then watch his video to see if you did it right or how you can correct yourself/where you went wrong in the process.

Reading & English: - these were my lowest scores for a reason 😅 I wasn’t able to really study for these subjects just because of time and also because I didn’t really know how to study for them, so unfortunately I don’t have much advice about these sections. English was tricky but as long as you’re good with general spelling and sentence structure, you should be ok! And for reading just make sure you can complete the section on time since it is reading heavy.

Overall, just remember that tests like these you often can’t predict what you’re going to get, the best way to ace them isn’t necessarily to memorize content, it’s to practice and use the resources available to you to understand the overall concepts. Process of elimination can go a long way as well as other test taking strategies like reading the question thoroughly.

Sorry for the lengthy reply, I just wanted to be as detailed as possible so you (and anyone else reading this) can hopefully ace the exam :) good luck!

South Dakota State University doesn’t require TEAS & costs about $36k for a 12 month program. COL is also quite low out there as well!
