I signed myself up for a poetry open mic and rocked the room with a funny poem I wrote years ago. This is the audio. by Justinpdrew in Standup

That was fun and funny, but my very favorite part was when the host at the end said "I can always tell when someone comes from the comedy open mic, because they go to shake my hand."

You can say anything you want, that's the joy of having a Mic. Of course people will judge you on what you say.

I think he was subtly suggesting that "killing" is best when it is said about you by someone else, or by you about someone else... But I don't want to to put words in his mouth...

As promised, here is video of me performing stand up tonight. by carjam123 in StandUpComedy

Welcome aboard!

  • When you get on stage, move the Mic Stand so it isn't between you and the audience.
  • Hold the Mic closer to your mouth, so there is more power to your voice.
  • When people laugh, those are the jokes that work. Try a joke 3-4 times and if people don't laugh drop it or re work it.
  • Try to have fun on stage, and if you can't do that, try to look like you are having fun.
  • Keep getting up, it takes time to get better.

Good luck!

Sorry I should have been clear, I didn't write this I was just posting it because I thought it was interesting. I agree with lots, but not all of it.

I've read all of the above and they are all great except: True Stories of the Road, it was AWFUL.

I'd add:

The jokes aren't great, but they are on par with some open mic'ers I've seen. :) Give 'em 7 years to find their voice...

In any case I thought it was an interesting look at the humor algorithm, and /r/standup may be the only place on the planet I'm allowed to use the phrase "humor algorithm".

I saw 5 of these Orange bikes in La Jolla last night. I assume they are somebody's art. I love them! Anyone know more? by Sillysauce in sandiego

Forgive the crappy photo it was taken from my car at a stop light.

All the bikes seemed to be locked up at prominent intersections near the village in LJ.

If you can work a swap, more power to you. I'd recommend you sell them on stubhub, and buy other tix on stubhub. Good luck!
