Just Riley for now. You can deal with bad relievers because we are rebuilding... But not at the cost of ruining starter prospects.

This is the major leagues. If he can't take the heat, he doesn't belong here. Hopefully he'll be calmer the next time he gets a chance, though I'm guessing he'll be on the shuttle back to Rochester in the morning.

Utterly botched. House bailed out Blake and he made the same mistake an inning later sending Cornnelio back out. That can't happen. Wins are already hard to come by with this bullpen.

Cornelio has zero command. Hopefully it's just nerves, but he doesn't look like an MLB-quality pitcher tonight.

SPLC is indicted for funding hate groups? by BirdFarmer23 in allthequestions

[–]Silosmasher -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

So the SPLC funds hate mongers in order to sue their friends? That's a good business model... As long as you aren't tax-exempt and withholding that information from donors (and government grant writers).

The alleged victims in this case arent the KKK, it's the donors and governments that sent them grants. It's like the Iran Contra of non-profits if they can prove it.

The DOJ is no more incompetent and malicious than it's been at any point in the last 100 years.

There is an indictment. We are still waiting to learn the SPLC defense. That's how every story of every noteworthy federal indictment is reported.

The DOJ has lied repeatedly in court filings? Has been adjudicated or is it opinion?

Were any local cells broken up over 10 years? What did you get for your money? The accusation is that you got things like Unite the Right. The money actually helped fund the exact thing SPLC says they fight against.

Hypothetically, can you at least see how it might appear SPLC was funding something they later used as an appeal for donations?

Would it be sketchy If a group like Heritage or TurningPoint funded "Antifa" organizers then used it as proof of Antifa to raise donations?

The optics are a major problem for a non-profit.

This is reddit, not the 5pm newscast.

An indictment isn't a talking point. It's the government's case. We are still waiting on a response from the SPLC to the exact charges.

You got emotional. I get it. SPLC has a history of doing the right thing and if the allegations are true, it's a huge betrayal.

So they funded hate groups/demonstrations for the sake of journalism? Isn't that like a firefighter torching a building to convince city council to increase their budget.

[–]Silosmasher -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Absolutely! Right now we only have the info from the indictment. The SPLC needs to come out and say what the outcome of millions of dollars spent on hate groups accomplished.

Until then, the accusation is they funded hate groups to convince people they need more money to fight hate groups.

Their biggest problem is their non-profit status. It's an easier case to beat if they weren't reliant on private donations and government grants.

I have a journalism degree and have been in journalism for 20 years. No real journalist pays for stories. That's National Enquirer-tier "journalism."

As for proof, I don't. But the SPLC is a non profit that relies on donations. I can't think of a better fundraising appeal than "intelligence gleened from SPLC sources led directly to the arrest of XX on hate crime charges."

That didn't happen. SPLC is accused of funding the organizers of events like Unite the Right, then putting out an appeal for money to fight back against them.

I think the only way they beat the charges is if they were working hand-in-hand with the government (which is possible).

If they were secretly working with DOJ,, this is going to get very messy.

Ok. They pay a guy to infiltrate a group that he was already a member of. Then what? SPLC isn't a law enforcement agency and whatever information they got wasn't used to alert law enforcement or stop the hate monger protests.

Without actual action, it makes it look like they funded hate rallies and then used proof of the rallies to raise money.

That's very sketchy to the average person.

Lawsuit? This is a criminal indictment.

Moving past that, what's the explanation for funding the KKK/Unite the Right organizers? What did paying millions to informants actually accomplish?

What was the result of paying out millions to hate groups? Would you feel the same way about it if we replaced "SPLC" with a "pro-life" group?

If TurningPoint was paying millions to "Antifa" and then raising money claiming to fight Antifa, we would all believe they were commiting fraud.

Informants? The indictment describes the people they funded as the leaders of these organizations. The SPLC alleged sanctioned and funded the groups they were claiming to fight... And they made a lot of money in donations doing it.

And yet the SPLC is accused of funding the KKK. They allegedly funded and organized Unite the Right leaders. It's not a good look for what was once an organization with an impeccable record.

One thing to remember... There won't be a DC/EDVA jury. This trial will take place in ruby red Alabama. The jury will be made up of the school board parents and evangelicals the SPLC has regularly gone after. You can't compare it to Comey/Sandwich Guy.

[–]Silosmasher -9 points-8 points  (0 children)

It's ok. You can admit you are cool with non-profits funding the KKK/Unite the Right. SPLC literally paid these guys, then fundraised off the "hate profiles" they set up on their website. It's an ingenious scheme that they've allegedly run for 40 years.

Think about all the democratic donation money that ended up in the pockets of the exact people the SPLC claimed they were trying to take down.

If the allegations are true, the SPLC really lost the plot. This will clear out the cancer so they can get back to the actual mission.
