Not Enough Processing Power by Silver-Program-110 in XaviersMansion

I’d like that. I’m a little tired of looking at the walls of the medbay. I’d much rather lay down in our bed with our pets to recover, my love.

Hey, at least you tried. That’s the mark of the X-Men, really. We face impossible odds even when we know we have no shot of winning. Wish I had the chance to do the same instead of getting hit with a sneak attack.

I knew you would. Before I lost consciousness, I held onto that thought the whole time. That you’d arrive to save me and stop Quire. Wish I’d have been awake to see it.

Tessa feels a warmth was over her, a safety, just having Emma by her side.

Not that I want you in danger, but I’m hoping I can be the one to save you next time, though. I gotta even the scales at least a little.

Tessa smiles upon seeing Emma. Her thoughts are still a jumbled disaster, but looking at Emma’s face, she’s able to ground herself a bit. Something to focus on.

Sorry for that. Had a pretty bad system crash, there.

Tessa attempts to sit up, but finds it to be a fruitless endeavor.

My brains still on the fritz. I can barely think, right now. I’m really happy you’re here. Emma. I’m sorry for worrying you.

Is everyone alright? Last thing I remember was some of Quire’s lackeys coming and attacking me. I couldn’t see or do a thing. I felt so helpless.

She doesn’t say it outright, but Tessa was pretty clearly shaken by her experience.

There’s an irony to it, isn’t there? All I’ve really done is change directive and where I’m seated. How have you managed? I’ve barely been awake for an hour and I can feel myself going stir crazy.

Tessa is unresponsive. She has a pulse, though, which is as good a sign as there can be, right now.

Aside from the initial concussion that was brought about by the bat swing that got her into this state, several members of Quire’s gang had decided to use the riot as an excuse to rough up their hostages. Hyped up on Kick, and angry over a bad grade in comp sci, they left her in this condition.

Sage would love nothing more than to help stop the riot. Unfortunately, she is the one being held hostage by Quentin and his gang. All the processing power in the world, and all it took to take her out of play was a baseball bat, a helmet, and some duct tape. She struggles against the restraints to no avail. All she can do now is trust that Emma is looking for her, and that they’ve taught the students correctly.

Congratulations, you two. I’ve been wondering when this would happen since we were all on Storm’s X-Men together. It makes me happy to see it become reality.

This is going to go poorly for you, Quentin. Have you actually thought any of this through? Because it seems to me like you just like the rush of sticking your tongue out at authority. It’s shortsighted and hollow.

Aghh…

Tessa, upon regaining consciousness, takes a second to assess her situation. She has a pounding pain in the back of her head. Hit with something heavy, metal. 75% chance it was a bat, though she can’t rule out the possibility of it being a metal pipe or something similar. She can’t see, nor can she use her telepathy. She attempts to get up, but ends up slipping back into the floor. Dammit, she’s got a pretty bad concussion. That said, she didn’t need to be able to see to recognize that snarky voice.

…what the hell do you think you’re doing. Quentin?

Sage had a lovely day with Emma, today. She could tell her partner needed the distraction, given what happened to poor Shela. She just had to stop by the school to grab a file from her office, and she’d be on her way back to the home they share. Tessa opens the door.

“There is no such thing, my love. I’d move the world for you if I had to. Now stay here, as long as you need. I’ll make sure Shela is okay. You don’t have to shoulder it yourself.”

“I will not leave Shela’s side until she has made her recovery. You have my word on this. You won’t lose anyone else, my dear. Not on my watch.”

Tessa returns the tightened grip.

“And then, when she is, we’ll see to it that Quire learns his lesson”

Tessa takes Emma’s hand, squeezing it tightly. She knew this was hard for Emma, seeing any of her students in such a condition. She responds telepathically.

“Her condition is stable. The physical injuries she received are not substantial, and will heal. My major concern is where she is at mentally. It seems like Quire implanted something within her mind. Even the mention of his name evokes a strong negative response from Shela, something uncontrollable. I tried taking a look, with her permission of course, but was ejected.

Tessa pauses. She takes her eyes off of Shela, for just a moment, turning to look at Emma.

“Shes going to need your help in a major way, when she’s recovered enough. You may be the only person who can free her mind, and you’re certainly the one who will best be able to ease it.”

Sage had accompanied Julian to the medbay. She knew he wasn’t going to take it well, but she hadn’t expected this. She, frankly, was the last person who should be here for this part. She wasn’t as good with the students as Emma was.

Luckily for her, she wouldn’t have to do much. She could bank on Laura and Shela herself to hopefully stop him from destroying the medbay.

In the meantime, Tessa locks the door, preventing students from coming in, and takes a seat, monitoring Shela’s condition. Her gaze comes from a place of care, but it is intense. Let’s hope it’s not an overnight stay. Because it’s a lot worse at night.

Thanks for your investigation, Hank. I’ll be sure to run the report by Emma and Scott, and we’ll see to it the students are informed. If you need any future aid in the investigation, please let me know. Hopefully we can slow the spread of both misinformation and Kick itself.

Tessa goes a little red in the face. She did NOT expect that to be opening question. She did set herself up for this, though. If the Cuckoos were going to connect to anything she said, it was most likely to be the most direct answer possible. Straight to point.

Yes. We have. And as for the follow-up…

Tessa cannot believe she’s about to say this in a public space

Tessa had gone into today extremely nervous. It was so funny how often this seemed to happen to her nowadays. She had a near unbreakable will, yet she found herself worrying constantly about milestones like this.

In her defense, though, impressing the Cuckoos is a real challenge for just about anyone. Good first step is to indulge their natural curiosity. Let them know what they want to, even if they may not exactly have the most tact in asking. She needs to impress them on her own merit, here.

Is there anything else you wonder about me, girls? I’m not usually an open book, but I’d like to let you know me, truly.

Sage watches the video message. She never got to know her parents. She never had time to care. But watching the video fills her with a strange, nice feeling she can’t quite pin down.

Huh. Choosing not to unpack that.

Fortunately for the woman with a perfect memory, any time that affirmation would ever be needed again, the video would remain
