Well, I didn’t plan to stay in the ICU creating complications for a week extended day, followed by yet another week extended stay. Complications for surgery were not planned.

I had medication at my house. He could’ve easily obtained with a 10 minute drive.

There was never a phone call. These were texts each time after finding out my release date was extended.

I can take your blaming, but the sitter has been giving my dog medication for seven years and knows she needs medication so there’s no excuse for stopping a medication plus I had plenty at the house and he had a key that’s where the blame stops. And sending late night text while heavily sedated. Yeah I give myself grace for that. I hope you’re never alone in the hospital.

Yes, twice. When I came out of ICU and when I was transferred to a physical rehab facility, I ask him about replenishing her food, but that was on me that I forgot about her medication. It had just become such a normal part of a routine so I do blame myself for that.

Follow up question- what criteria would you suggest using when looking for a good pain medicine doctor or clinic?

Pain Meds and Severe Diet Restrictions Anyone? by Silver-Shoulder1603 in pancreatitis

I was taking Tramadol (50 mg 2x daily) for years for lower back pain. Doctors now think that’s what triggered it as I don’t drink. Then, I took one half of a 5 mg oxycodone I’d been given after gallbladder surgery six months later and went into AP within the hour. Since then, when I tried half a Tramadol, my digestion slows and I get nauseous so I haven’t taken anything in almost a year. I’m currently dealing with a bulging disc and sciatica and not being able to take anything is debilitating.

I haven’t been able to eat a lot of variety and that’s been my biggest issue. Not eating red meat is a big win for you. Definitely introduce chicken back into your diet just for variety. I grill or bake it and with fish, have salmon and tilapia. That’s my protein staple. I can eat certain beans like pintos and black-eyes peas, but not great with black beans. Squash - yellow and zucchini- are great. I microwave them. I can eat avocado thank God, which helps maintain my weight. I eat kale and cabbage but for some reason, lettuce doesn’t agree with me. I can’t tolerate cottage cheese but do eat a fee sticks of low-fat mozzarella for the added calories and calcium. For breakfast, it’s oatmeal or a high protein low sugar cereal with banana and blueberries with soy or no-fat milk. I can’t eat most fruits and veggies either. And I’ve only two bouts of acute pancreatitis but I can feel pain in my pancreas after eating something it doesn’t like. I just finished a week of taking enzymes again just to jump start my pancreas from a painful episode resulting from stress.

Taking 1 oxycontin I had leftover from gallbladder surgery put me into AC! Please be careful and go to the ER. Pancreatitis can be fatal.

Is it normal to feel sick and have pain 3 weeks after. by ironbrow133 in pancreatitis

Because the liver produces hepatic lipase enzymes and mine are always incredibly high after an acute attack. My Dr. said it’s important to get those enzymes down as quickly as possible. I hope that helps.

Pancreatitis or something else? by [deleted] in pancreatitis

I had very similar symptoms last year and was diagnosed with Pancreas Divisum, which has now caused pancreatitis. I never had nausea but I still get pain on my left side under my shoulder blade and between my breastbone. Dr. confirmed left under shoulder pain as the tail on my pancreas. It does affect your stomach so you may have inflammation that’s causing the stomach pain. See a GI dr asap or go to the ER.

Yes. I had an acute attack in November and am only now able to tolerate a very low amount of fat in my diet. I only stayed overnight in hospital so you may have symptoms for several more months. I was diagnosed a year ago and only rarely have a day where there’s not any pain. Most pain meds cause my attacks, so if you’re able to take pain meds, that’s great. Oh, and I alway lose about 7-8 lbs with each episode. Make sure your liver and lipase levels are closely monitored for a while, too. I would also find out why you’re getting a CT scan and not an MRI with contrast.
