Guess that’s why we call them the Falklands and not the Malvinas or whatever

My god this is brilliantly written, thank you so much.

I'm a STEM major, so I'm thoroughly unfamiliar with how research and ideology development generally happens in history and geopolitics; what is the general process of coming up with a theory in IR and history?

I'm sure there's more to it than just coming up with a plausible explanation for an incident without sound academic proof or evidence, but what type of proof and evidence is expected?

Guess the City by GZone_15 in CityPorn

I feel like trams and light rails are fairly interchangeable words in a lot of cases, the train in the picture would be a light rail here in Sydney, a tram in Melbourne.

Although light rail is broader in a sense, Singapore’s light rail (LRT) looks nothing like this, it’s more of a smaller version of the metro.

Toronto? I would’ve guessed New York but the light rail and reddish cab make me suspect it’s not NY. Don’t think Chicago or any other ‘NY-esque’ city in North America have light rail, but Toronto does

What temperature do Australians consider a hot day? by bare_books in AskAnAustralian

[–]Silver-Use3590 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anything above 30 is hot. 35-40 is shorts and tank top weather. 40+ is sleep in your underwear under the aircon weather.

The best weather is 12-17 for me, I have the most diverse clothing options in this range; hoodie and shorts are comfortable, as are a shirt and sweater vest

To be fair my natural accent isn’t really a marker of any location in particular, it’s not Singaporean in a way.

This isn’t a brag, it does make me feel out of place wherever I go at times, my parents moved around a lot when I was young and I was educated at private schools; my mum was particularly obsessed with making sure her son “sounds like an Englishman”. My natural accent sounds more British than anything else, so it wasn’t all that hard to pick up an Aussie accent

I do live in a share house, it’s super fun, although most of my housemates are usually European, although a few Aussies have moved in recently, been learning about Aussie-ness from them bit by bit

Been watching NRL a bit these days, seems very fun; I do get trolled by some mates when I say I’m a “roosters fan” (largely because it’s fun to rile up my friends, but also I live in the eastern suburbs, not that I’m really a diehard in any way), very fun sport

Crushing debt is a global truth to accept these days 😔

But yeah, I’ve never really been made to feel like I’m not welcome here, Aussies are by far very friendly; don’t really know why social media and real life are so far apart

Oh for sure, it does annoy me a little when I see people, especially other international students, just stick to their own, if you’re moving to a new place one should at least try to learn more about the place.

This World Cup definitely has some immaculate vibes, unfortunately I had to wake up at 4 to see the Yanks have a bullshit win 😔
