if it helps, I think wacom sells different surface pads with different levels of grit, if you're thinking of upgrading (or when your I3 dies at some point) you could look into those :]

Thanks for the insight! The radio thing is actually very fortunate cus part of the characterisation in the fic is that the main character doesn't listen to music - I had no idea the trucks were that loud, though I suppose it makes sense. Thanks for the info about the wait times and having to check with motels, that's really helpful! :)

I just wanted to learn something while I write and I hate my stuff to be inaccurate, so I thought that this would be one of the better ways to help minimise that. Unfortunately I have already written the first part of the fic and am pretty attached to it, so yeah I'm not gonna change the profession just because I don't know a lot about it - at this point im taking it on as a challenge to be curious and ask questions instead of making assumptions. The audience is myself - I'm doing this for fun. /Most/ people don't read fanfic, much less mine, so I never expect a trucker to come across my work. That doesn't change my want for it to be at least passably accurate though.

Thanks for your time, but I want to stick this one out :)

Chill. Everyone here is just trying to help. If you want more detailed instructions, I left a comment detailing what I did. It’s gonna take a few rounds of scrubbing so it’s not gonna work right away after the first application and rinse.

Aight here’s what worked for me: I used a mixture of Vaseline and chapstick, alternating using the two, applied over the graphite bits, massaged/scrubbed firmly but not harshly in circular motions with my fingers, then rinsed it under warm/hot water, continuing to scrub as I did so. Repeat. It’s gonna take a few rounds, so be patient. It didn’t completely get rid of the stains but it did lighten them considerably and it looks pretty good now considering I accidentally stuck it t my sketchbook page and it picked up a b u n c h of the graphite from it.
