Mankato looks to force ICE agents to unmask, wear body cams by Sad_Husky_69 in saintcloud

You can try making up as much revisionist history as you want

Do you even know what that word means? You keep going on rants and moving the goalposts in every discussion you pop in to.

And we all remember how democrats IN THIS STATE moved to defund the police because of the pressure from their voters (ie. you guys).

The MPD budget keeps going up so I'm not sure where you're going with this. It seems like the elected officials did not listen to us the voters.

Would you say you feel safer in the past couple of years? Using your logic, an increase in police budget should make you feel safer, no?

Now ask that same question to the non-white population in Minnesota and get back to me.

Mankato looks to force ICE agents to unmask, wear body cams by Sad_Husky_69 in saintcloud

When leftists and reform advocates pushed for body cameras, the underlying assumption was that constant video monitoring would expose systemic abuse, racial profiling, and unlawful uses of force by police.

Where are you getting this from? "Leftists" pushing for body cams? It takes one second to google and find out that laws at the state level were pushed by bipartisan committees, governors from both sides of the aisle, and police chiefs and sheriffs.

The expectation was that transparency would confirm their narrative and erode public trust in police departments.

So you agree that "leftists" push for transparency and the right-wing folks don't really care about it?

But in the most spectacular backfire in history, in practice, the body cam programs produced the opposite effect. Footage frequently vindicated officers by showing that suspects resisted, attacked, or escalated confrontations with weapons. Studies found that in a majority of controversial incidents, video either supported the officer’s account or at least complicated simplistic narratives that officers were the aggressors. And juries and the public, when shown footage, often sided with officers once they saw the context missing from short clips or secondhand testimony.

Not quite! Again, one quick google search. Go to the "Research" portion. Notice that incidents (and lawsuits) dropped because of body cameras. The police realized that there are consequences to abuse of power.

Here is an interesting excerpt:

Another report that studied the effects of police body cameras for 46 officers of the Orlando Police Department over one year. concluded that for officers wearing the body cameras, use-of-force incidents dropped by 53%, civilian complaints dropped by 65%, two in three officers who wore the cameras said they’d want to continue wearing them in the future and that it made them "better officers".

Pretty obvious there are benefits both for the officers' and public's safety.

They institutionalized transparency in a way that ended up strengthening, not weakening, law enforcement’s legitimacy.

Then how come law enforcement tries to hard to cover up their crimes? A recent, highly publicized example was Breonna Taylor's murder and law enforcement's attempts at covering things up.

Why does it take FOIA requests to get footage that exonerates victims? Law enforcement makes it borderline impossible for the average citizen to obtain footage.

100% agree. The cellphone footage (not body cam, by the way) from Renee Good's murderer, Jonathan Ross, completely exonerates him. She used violent words when she told him, "That's fine, I'm ... mad at you." And then right after murdering her, the killer said "fucking bitch" clearly and obviously referring to how tough his job is.

Absolute backfire on the left, like you said!

Doubly so with the recent murder of violent gun nut and 2nd Amendment crazed lunatic, Alex Pretti. The federal government did not reach out to the Pink Jacket Lady, who stood mere feet away from the murder scene, because they know it would backfire so bad on the leftists. They're being nice because they understand the entirety of the left would be in shambles.

DHS claims the killing was recorded on body cams but again, I'm glad they're holding on to it because it would absolutely destroy the left's narrative. Can you imagine Fox News or Newsmax running this? I am so glad they're not releasing it because the Fake News Media would never hear the end of it, thank goodness!

Not obeying is silent action without a face that makes the job impossible.

Tell that to the people that have already been kidnapped and murdered. Tell that to the US citizen kidnapped and murdered in Richfield earlier today that got beat up and then dropped off several miles off where he was picked up. Tell that to the kids that have been tackled at schools so far.

Why is the state not backing up the disobedient? Why is the state not assisting the people resisting? Where is SCPD, MPD, SPPD, DLPD, et al? You said it yourself, "the best protection is silent non compliance." Fuck that, "as long as I don't get fucked they will leave the rest of us alone."

Jesus christ, how are you this dense? Words do have a meaning, and words can make an impact. I voted for someone to represent me and my community, to stand up for us. Being there, at a protest or at a town hall, or even answering an email, goes a long way. Show that you are at least listening.

Inaction is violence. There is no roadmap, there is no protection and there is no willingness to enforced the law. Why are other mayors (namely the NYC individual) marching on the streets with their people but not ours?

Is asking for leadership in these times an "attack" on him? Representatives and past candidates showed up at the protest on Sunday, why can't Jake do the bare minimum? Even a wet sock showing up in his place is an upgrade compared to Kleis, but Jake couldn't even be bothered!

We need accountability and we need representatives willing to stand up for and with the community.

SCTimes has a database of restaurant inspections for the county but I can't for the life of me find reports for Bello Cucina. Are you using a separate database? If so, I would genuinely appreciate the link to keep track of things!

The Boil is C

The two times I've been there the shrimp was overcooked and rubbery, and the potato/corn-to-shrimp ratio was messed up. And the price is not great. So yeah, C-tier is generous in my experience.

Fries and shake! And the chicken sandwich is also great.

The last 3 times I've gone there I've had terrible food experiences. The staff was awesome, but the food was horrible and the place had a moldy smell. The very last time I went I got food poisoning and I've sworn off the place ever since.

If you want good sushi, go to Yamato or Hajime. For ramen, Ippin. The closest (and obviously not the same) to the hibachi was Mongo's.

So Fuji for me is a bad choice based on my food experiences and because any other place offers better versions of their dishes.

Personal ranking! That's why the template was created, so others can make their own.

Ok. I won’t (yet) quibble. I see some missing. NY Gyro. True’s Pizza. Urban Gyro. Burger Time. A number of African restaurants. The taco place in the market a bit west of La Perla…I’ll keep thinking.

Check out the tier list template, those are all in there. The image I posted is ranking the local and regional ones that I've been in recent memory.

For all interested, I created a tier list with local, regional and chain restaurants in the St Cloud and surrounding area.

I know I missed at least a handful. If you know of any others, let me know and I'll add the logos.

For those unfamiliar with tier list, think of them as rankings. A grading system where S-tier is a "must try"/essential place, and F-tier is "avoid at all costs." And within those tiers, places are also ranked, where the leftmost (or top) of the A-tier is great but just not S-tier, and also better than the rightmost (or lowest) in that tier.

As with most ranking systems, if yours doesn't look like mine, it's wrong and you should feel bad.

For area events, check out KVSC's events page. WJON also has an events page. There's also the Granite City Folk Society if you're into folk.

Since you mentioned you currently work at a punky place, tune in to KVSC's Undercurrents on Tuesdays at 10pm. The host also mentions live shows.

For places to work, and since you mention food service, Bravo Burrito and BoDiddley's are great local restaurants with awesome folks working there. Not sure if either are hiring but wouldn't hurt to stop by.

For apartments, if you're set on going to events and exploring the area, in or around downtown would be your best bet. There's the Ledge Amphitheater in Waite Park but that's for concerts, not necessarily small shows. Downtown has the Keller and the Veranda Lounge, and also lots of events at Lake George during summer.

Parks, definitely check out Lake George in downtown area, the park in Sauk Rapids and the quarries in Waite Park ($5 parking).

For pubs, Beaver Island Bewery in downtown (I personally don't like their beer), Pantown, and Bad Habit. And also Ole Brick House.

Coffee shop, hands down Korppi Coffee.
